U.S. TROOPS MOVING INTO SYRIA

STEP ONE INTO SYRIA
OPERATION EAGER LION, 2013
4,500 U.S. TROOPS, PATRIOT MISSILES AND JET FIGHTERS.
The U.S. military will be providing Syrian 'rebels' with strategic and tactical combat training, most likely in Jordan, where some combat elements are already positioned for a previously scheduled 'exercise'.
At least one Patriot missile defense system and as many as eight F-16 fighter jets will likely remain in Jordan following the exercise.
Elements of a Marine Corps expeditionary force off the helicopter carrier USS Kearsarge are expected to arrive in Jordan soon.

Military forces from Jordan and the U.S. are drilling together in the Jordanian desert with 17 other nations in Exercise Eager Lion 2013 -- the third such military drill to take place in Jordan.

["DRILLING"...CATCHY PHRASE, ISN'T IT, "DRILLING"? AND JORDAN? REALLY? NOT ISRAEL BUT JORDAN? HMMM...WHEN DID WE DECIDE TO LOVE JORDAN AGAIN?]

The 12-day war games, slated to end Thursday, was explained by a statement on the website of the U.S. Armed Forces Central Command as an opportunity to "promote cooperation and interoperability among participants," but appears clearly intended to send a warning to Jordan’s northern neighbor, Syria.
At least one or two Patriot anti-missile batteries was recently deployed by the U.S. along the Jordanian-Syrian border to defend the kingdom against spillover from the country’s savage civil war. A similar set of four such batteries were deployed by NATO along Turkey’s border with Syria in January for similar reasons.
TROOPS MAY LEAVE, BUT THOSE JETS AND PATRIOT MISSILES WILL STAY BEHIND.
[DEPLOY 'EM IF YOU'VE GOT 'EM, PENTAGON! HECK YEAH! DRONES, DRONES, WHERE ARE THE DRONES?]

Involving forces on land, sea and in the air, the exercises bring together 8,000 troops from a total of 19 European and Arab nations. All are engaged in learning counterinsurgency techniques, fighting terrorism, non-standard warfare methods and border security.>>

ONLY 8000? THAT'S A LITTLE ON THE SMALL SIDE, ISN'T IT?
OH, I BET THEY AREN'T COUNTING A FEW THOUSAND, SURELY.

ANOTHER, EARLIER REPORT CITES 19 NATIONS, WITH A LITTLE SLAP AT THOSE "SYRIAN REBELS"

<<Jordan announced Saturday the start of “Eager Lion” military exercises with the participation of 8,000 soldiers from 19 Arab and Western countries, said Major General Awni el-Edwan, the Jordan Armed Forces' operations chief of staff.
Dismissing speculation that the Syrian rebel army might take part in the drill, Edwan said “only nations” were invited to participate.
Part of the military drill involves air exercises on how to control and reduce effects of chemical weapons on military units and civilians.
In the presence of Major General Robert G. Catalanotti of the US Army Central Command, Edwan said that F-16 fighters and Patriot missiles will be used in the drill but he did not disclose how many of these fighters and missiles were brought to the kingdom.>>

HE DISCLOSED MAYBE A BIT TOO MUCH, HMMM?

<<Meanwhile Catalanotti said there will be 4,500 US troops that will participate in the military exercises.>>
4500, EH? WONDER WHERE THEY MIGHT HAVE COME FROM?

THE PLOT THICKENS! (WELL, THIS IS A 'REPORT' FROM FOX, SO MAYBE NOT? AND, BTW, IF ANYONE KNOWS A WORSE "NEWS AGENCY" THAN FOX, DO SEND ME A LINK. I'D LIKE TO SEE THAT.)

As the United States prepares to supply Syrian rebels with small arms through a CIA-run program, Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel said Saturday that U.S. troops temporarily in neighboring Jordan will leave behind fighter jets and a cache of Patriot missiles.

Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain and other Capitol Hill military hawks have called for much heavier arms including the Patriot defense missiles and for the United States to enforce a no-fly zone over Syria.
However, the Pentagon made clear Saturday the detachment of missiles and F-16s was brought to Jordan as part an annual, multi-nation military exercise called Eager Lion and will remain there only at the request of the country leaders, when the exercise ends next week.
LIKE THE LEADERS WILL DECIDE THEY DON'T WANT THEM...
The White House announced the decision to aid the Syrian opposition Thursday.
The White House has still not decided whether to send anti-tank weapons, while the CIA prepares to arm and train the rebels, as confirmed Saturday by Fox News.
Secretary of State John Kerry on Saturday explained the president’s decision to go beyond supplying humanitarian aid.>>
[IF KERRY COULD EXPLAIN WATER TO A DUCK, WOULDN'T THAT PROVE THERE IS A GOD? WAIT...BACHMAN IS QUITTING, THAT PROVES IT RIGHT THERE!]
