USDA WILDLIFE SERVICES KILLS MILLIONS OF ANIMALS EVERY YEAR

This infamous photo of the severed heads of 11 mountain lions was taken by an outraged employee of the Arizona Game and Fish Department. These animals were among 24 lions killed by the federal agency Animal Damage Control (now called Wildlife Services) in the Galiuro mountains of Arizona, a wilderness area North of Willcox. All were killed on federal lands on the Coronado National Forest over a six-month period.

Though there’s a list of animals killed, there’s little data showing the cause for each killing, the methods used and the reasons behind mistakes that lead to massive kills of animals that aren’t targeted.
At least two members of Congress have called Wildlife Services secret and opaque for failing to provide more information, and there are mounting calls for an investigation into how it operates.
Wildlife Services says that it responds to requests by government agencies nationwide and works to “resolve human/wildlife conflicts” in a strategic way.

SOME ANIMALS NOT MARKED FOR DEATH DIE OF POISONING, TRAPS, ETC, AS AN "UNINTENTIONAL RESULT" WHEN THE USDA DOES ITS THING...INCLUDING DOMESTIC ANIMALS, PETS, SMALLER LIVESTOCK.

According to a study Bergstrom published in 2013, Wildlife Services is budgeted $57 million, while the Department of Interior has spent $43 million on efforts to protect the gray wolf. Wildlife Services has killed more than 1,500 gray wolves since 1996.

"Some of these are incredibly important species, imperiled species," Atwood told VICE News. "We have millions of dollars in active policies to recover them. It's a completely schizophrenic policy."

“We’re really not sure what they’re doing,” he said.

Wildlife Services has been around under different government names for more than a century. It essentially cleared away wildlife for America’s westward expansion.>>

<<Amy Atwood, a senior attorney at the Center for Biological Diversity,  dismissed the “science-based model” that Cole mentioned as a document that “basically says they can use whatever methods at their disposal whenever they want.”

Her organization’s petition called on the USDA and the Obama Administration to develop a policy based on ecological science, showing how removing animals from the wild affects the natural balance of the habitats.

In the Northeast, for example, the elimination of red wolves led to a proliferation of coyotes, which the wolves rarely tolerate in their range. Coyotes push away foxes, which prey on deer mice, which spread ticks.

The execution of wolves and other predators, such as bears, allows deer to proliferate across the country, destroying trees that serve as habitat for other animals.

Atwood described Wildlife Services’ work as “a staggering killing campaign, bankrolled by taxpayers” and happening “beyond the view of most Americans.”

The Act has been responsible for saving numerous species from becoming extinct.

On the other hand, there’s a program called Wildlife Services, which falls under the USDA agency Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), and is tasked with managing invasive species and handling wildlife when it interferes with human activities like agriculture and property threats.

“Wildlife Services” has a positive ring to it, but perhaps its former name, “Animal Damage Control,” is a more accurate description.

Over 15 years, at least 40 million animals have been shot, poisoned, snared and trapped.

There are few historical records or modern cases of wolf attacks in North America. In the half-century up to 2002, there were eight fatal attacks in Europe and Russia, three in North America.

There were no written records of wolf attacks on humans prior to the European colonization of the America.

DOMESTIC ANIMALS CAUSE FAR MORE DEATHS AND INJURIES EACH YEAR THAN WILD ANIMALS DO!

"The number of rabies cases reported in DOMESTIC cats is routinely 3-4 times that of rabies reported in cattle or dogs."
People are non-fatally injured in falls related to their dogs 7.5 times often than in falls related to their cats, but apparently "an estimated average of 86,629 fall injuries associated with cats and dogs occurred in the United States each year during 2001--2006, for an average annual injury rate of 29.7 per 100,000 population." Let’s think about this: this massive wildlife carnage has been perpetrated to placate ranchers and farmers.

Ranchers and farmers slaughter millions of cows, chickens, turkeys, pigs, lambs and other so-called “food animals.”
So Wildlife Services is killing millions of innocent animals as a favor to special interests that also kill innocent animals.

You can read the state-by-state report in a 665-page document that details the method of an animal’s capture, along with how many were killed, destroyed, released or relocated, but don’t give any reason for the capture. Some captures are listed as “unintentional,” including the three eagle kills, one of which was captured by “M-44 Cyanide Capsule.” It makes for very depressing and infuriating reading.
