NEW FOOD STAMP LAW: NO STEAKS OR SEAFOOD

Missouri Republicans to poor people: Steak and seafood are too good for you

I PROMISE YOU, THIS IS TRUE!

MISSOURI'S REPUBLICANS ARE TRYING TO MAKE IT ILLEGAL FOR THOSE USING FOOD STAMPS TO BUY "LUXURY FOODS"!

FROM THE ARTICLE LINKED IN THE ABOVE 'HEADLINE':

"If you needed another piece of evidence that Republicans just hate poor people and want them to be miserable, here you go.
It seems like the bill's sponsor may be removed enough from cheap eating to have forgotten a few details like canned tuna.

Didn't really think it through, did you?

Just went into a hating-the-poor frenzy and said "BAN IT ALL" and then wrote it into a bill.
Brattin continues to insist his cause is a righteous one.

Dude, as a state legislator, YOU,TOO, are on the taxpayer's dime.

But where do these people shop who are always claiming to see people buying filet mignon on EBT cards?

I can only remember one time even noticing a person using an EBT card, and that was because she had to check her balance. Is there some grocery store in Missouri where everyone who ever wanted to blow their entire monthly SNAP allotment on steak and crab go, and that happens to be where Brattin shops?

If someone wants to go hungry one day so they can eat a damn steak on their birthday, what the hell business of Rick Brattin's is that?"

A BIT MORE IN-DEPTH:

A MISSOURI REPUBLICAN IS TRYING TO MAKE IT ILLEGAL FOR THOSE USING FOOD STAMPS TO BUY STEAKS OR SEAFOODS!

HE SAYS HE DIDN'T MEAN TO RULE OUT TUNA AND FISH STICKS!

HE DOESN'T WANT THOSE FOOD STAMP USERS TO BUY WHAT HE DEEMS "LUXURY FOODS" AND ALSO WANTS CHIPS, SOFT DRINKS LIKE COCA COLA, COOKIES AND ENERGY DRINKS BANNED FROM PURCHASE BY FOOD STAMP RECIPIENTS!

RICK BRATTIN, MISSOURI STATE REPRESENTATIVE....REMEMBER THIS NAME.

SOUNDING MUCH LIKE MITT ROMNEY, BRATTIN RANTS ABOUT MISUSE OF FOOD STAMPS AND HOW THEY SHOULD BE USED TO BUY ONLY "NUTRITIOUS" FOODS.

STEAK, SALMON, SHRIMP, OYSTERS ARE NOT NUTRITIOUS?
WHO KNEW?
MAYBE THE "gods" HAVE REVEALED THIS ONLY TO THE GOP?

"It just seems really repressive," said Mark Rank, a professor at Washington University and author of the book 'Living on the Edge: The Realities of Welfare in America'.
"I don't see how it makes any sense to ban some of these foods.
Fish is something that should really be in your diet.
And steak, what does that mean in this context?"

IF HE CAN'T BUY STEAK, NOBODY SHOULD!
AGAIN,
RICK BRATTIN, MISSOURI STATE REPRESENTATIVE:
"I have seen people purchasing filet mignons and crab legs with their EBT cards," he said. "When I can't afford it on my pay, I don't want people on the taxpayer's dime to afford those kinds of foods either."

I'D LOVE A LOOK INTO HIS HOME FREEZER AND REFRIGERATOR TO SEE IF HE'S LYING, WOULDN'T YOU?
CAN FOOD STAMP RECIPIENTS AFFORD STEAKS AND SEAFOOD?
NOT EVERY DAY!
IN FACT, HARDLY EVER!
Currently, a household of one can qualify for up to $194 dollars a month, or fewer than $7 dollars day, as part of SNAP, according to the Department of Agriculture. For a household of two, it's roughly twice that.
For a household of three, it's about three times the amount.
It doesn't take too much math to figure out that foods like lobster aren't exactly within a recipient's budget.
And it's also hard to draw conclusions based on a single purchase.
What if that family that was purchasing a more expensive cut of meat had subsisted on cheaper canned goods for the past month in order to afford it?

DOES BRATTIN CONSIDER THAT?
DOES HE HATE PEOPLE USING FOOD STAMPS SO MUCH THAT HE WANTS TO MAKE SURE THEY NEVER KNOW WHAT A STEAK OR OYSTER TASTES LIKE?
Brattin says his bill is about making the food stamp program revolve around nutrition, but it also touches on more than that: whether poor people should be allowed to purchase foods that are deemed fancy.
And Rank argues that this crosses a line.
"More than anything else, I think this is about controlling people," said Rank.
"We should be treating people who are in poverty the same way we treat everyone else."
TRY TO SELL THAT IDEA OF TREATING ALL PEOPLE WITH RESPECT TO THE GOP!
TRY TO SELL THEM EQUALITY FOR ALL...RICH/POOR, WHITE/BLACK/OTHER!
THEY AREN'T BUYING IT!
REPUBLICANS HAVE TRIED TO STOP POOR PEOPLE FROM VOTING FOR YEARS NOW, BUT TO GO TO THE NEXT LEVEL WITH THIS WAS REALLY SHOCKING.
NOT ONLY SHOULDN'T THEY HAVE A RIGHT TO VOTE, BUT THEY CAN ONLY EAT CERTAIN FOODS?
THIS, MY FRIENDS, SHOWS DEEP HATRED, UNMITIGATED LOATHING FOR AMERICA'S POOR.
THE GOP MAY BE FAR ENOUGH OUT OF TOUCH WITH REALITY TO WANT TO CONTROL WHICH PEOPLE CAN EAT WHICH FOODS, BUT THIS MAY COME BACK TO BITE THEM!
YOU CAN GRIND A BOOT HEEL INTO PEOPLE'S FACES JUST SO LONG BEFORE THEY RISE UP TO STOP YOU.
NOBODY WANTS TO BE TREATED LIKE GARBAGE!
THIS TAKES ROMNEY'S ASSESSMENT OF THE POOR AS "USELESS EATERS" TO A NEW DEFINITION OF ELITIST BIGOTRY!

THE MORE THE GOP SHOWS ITS TRUE COLORS, THE SOONER THEY WILL JUST GO EXTINCT, MAYBE?
WILL REPUBLICAN RACIST BIGOTS EVER RULE AMERICA AGAIN FROM THE OVAL OFFICE?

NOT IF AMERICA WAKES UP TO WHAT THE MAJORITY OF THEM SEEM TO STAND FOR.... ELITISM!

  1. during the time of the american revolution, the people did not petition the king, they did not protest in the streets, they did not have petition drives, they shot them. i suggest we do the same.

    1. @Reuben Chandler, ummmm, that's "illegal", y'know. Actually, I am coming to believe that LIFE is illegal anyway here.
Happy Day 1 of Jade Helm 15.
Let's see where this goes, eh?
We are a POLICE STATE after all & must get used to it.
A small exercise in acceptance, then roll into September, sign the "New Covenant" with the U.N., agree with the 'pope' that we are one people, one 'religion', hurrah, hurrah, and let there be peace on earth...
After that...well, is there an "after that"? We'll see.
'Sustainable living'...yes, yes, must have the Precious.
Be well, if you can find a way. Thanx for the comment.
