NUCLEAR ENERGY REPLACED BY WIND AND SOLAR, FORBES & OTHERS REPORT

EVEN MAINSTREAM MEDIA LIKE FORBES, NEWSWEEK AND BLOOMBERG HAVE CONCEDED THAT NUCLEAR ENERGY IS HISTORY AND SOLAR AND WIND ARE THE UPCOMING ANSWERS TO OUR ENERGY NEEDS.

WHAT NATIONS HAVE PROVEN THIS?

~ DENMARK HAS MANAGED TO GENERATE OVER 40% OF ITS TOTAL ENERGY NEEDS USING WIND POWER.

BUT ON JULY 9, 2015, THAT ROSE TO 140%!

"So much power was produced by Denmark’s wind farms on Thursday that the country was able to meet its domestic electricity demand and export power to Norway, Germany and Sweden.
On an unusually windy day, Denmark found itself producing 116% of its national electricity needs from wind turbines yesterday evening. By 3am on Friday, when electricity demand dropped, that figure had risen to 140%.
Interconnectors allowed 80% of the power surplus to be shared equally between Germany and Norway, which can store it in hydropower systems for use later. Sweden took the remaining fifth of excess power.
“It shows that a world powered 100% by renewable energy is no fantasy,” said Oliver Joy, a spokesman for trade body the European Wind Energy Association. “Wind energy and renewables can be a solution to decarbonisation – and also security of supply at times of high demand.”Around three-quarters of Denmark’s wind capacity comes from onshore wind farms, which have strong government backing.
Denmark has long been a pioneer in wind power, having installed its first turbines in the mid-1970s, and has even more ambitious aims in sight, including a 100 percent renewable country by 2050.
Last year, onshore wind was also declared the cheapest form of energy in the country."

"Renewable energy was the biggest contributor to Germany’s electricity supply in 2014, with nearly 26 percent of the country’s power generation coming from clean sources.
That’s according to Berlin-based think-tank Agora Energiewende.
Electricity output from renewables has grown eightfold in Germany since 1990, and the latest data further highlights the dramatic shift towards clean energy taking place in Europe’s largest economy."
~ SCOTLAND sees “massive year” for renewables!
With another record month experienced in December, 2014 was a “massive year” for renewables in Scotland.
Last month, wind turbines alone provided around 1,279 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity to the national gird, enough to supply the electrical needs of 164 percent of Scottish households, or 3.96 million homes.
The latest figures further highlight the record year seen for renewables in Scotland, with wind turbines providing an average 746, 510 MWh each month—enough to supply 98 percent of Scottish households electricity needs.
Over six months of the year, wind generated enough power to supply more than 100 percent of Scottish households, while in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness there was enough sunshine to provide 100 percent or more of the electricity needs for an average home in June and July.
With figures like these it is no wonder new research out this week said the country’s power grid could be 100 percent renewable by 2030."

~ IRELAND SET TWO NEW RECORDS   
IRELAND saw not one but two wind energy records set already in 2015.
"According to figures recorded by EirGrid on Wednesday (Jan. 7), wind energy had created 1,942 MW of energy, enough to power more than 1.26 million homes.
And while we are still only a week into 2015, this announcement marked the second time this year the country has seen this record broken. On Jan. 1, wind energy output was at a previous high of 1,872 MW."

~ FRANCE PASSES GREEN ROOFTOP LAWFrance keeps making green headlines lately… the Eiffel Tower’s wind turbines, the tree-shaped wind turbines being installed in Paris, and now an exciting new law that is sure to have a huge environmental impact in urban centers. 

Every new commercial building in France must meet a new building requirement; the roof must be at least partially covered in either solar panels or plants.

JAPAN...

Since 2008, the Japanese Space Agency (JAXA) has been working hard to develop technologies to transmit electricity wirelessly. The goal of the Space Solar Power Systems (SSPS), is to be able to transmit energy from orbiting solar panels by 2030. On March 12th, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI)successfully conducted a ground demonstration test of “wireless power transmission”, a technology that will serve as the basis for the SSPS.   

Potentially, a solar battery in orbit (36,000 kilometers above earth) could generate power which would then be transmitted to earth via microwave/laser, without relying on cables. JAXA anticipates that this new technology could become a mainstay energy source that will simultaneously solve both environmental and energy issues here on Earth."

~CHINA LEADS THE WAY FOR ALTERNATIVE ENERGY

According to Bloomberg New Energy Finance’s latest energy investment report, China led as the world’s largest investor in renewables, with the U.S. coming in second place.
Worldwide, around 100 gigawatts (GW) of solar and wind power capacity were built in 2014—up from 74 GW in 2013—and nearly during every month the headlines were filled with record generation in cities and countries across the world.

NEWSWEEK REPORTED THAT SOLAR INSTALLATION PRICES WERE DROPPING LIKE A ROCK, DOWN 70% FROM 1998.

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration,  the average U.S. household  uses 10,908 kilowatt hours (kWh) per year; at an average retail price of 10.21 cents per kWh, that ends up costing $1,113.70 annually. 
A [SMALL] 5 kilowatt solar array can produce over 4,000 kWh per year, significantly cutting down a household's reliance on the grid — and monthly bill, once the costs of your home system are offset.
 American solar remains significantly pricier than solar power in the rest of the world, partly due to U.S. tariffs on Chinese and Taiwanese solar products, where the cheapest panels are made. However, earlier this month, Jim Hughes, CEO of New York–based First Solar, predicted the U.S. will be down to $1 per watt solar by 2017, three years ahead of the U.S. Department of Energy’s goal.
Many predict that as the price of solar technology continues to fall, and the pressures on nations to cut their greenhouse gas emissions mount, the sun will provide a major share of the world’s future energy mix.

NUCLEAR ENERGY IS DYING OUT, A FORBES REPORT
“We all know that the wind doesn’t blow consistently and the sun doesn’t shine every day, but the nuclear industry would have you believe that humankind is smart enough to develop techniques to store nuclear waste for a quarter of a million years, but at the same time humankind is so dumb we can’t figure out a way to store solar electricity overnight. To me that doesn’t make sense.”
The UK government just signed an agreement guaranteeing a price of 16 cents per kilowatt hour for power generated by a NUCLEAR reactor proposed for Hinkley Point, on the coast at Somerset, England. 
That fresh contract represents an example of the market price of new nuclear power.
Solar power costs six to seven cents, and wind costs four or five cents.  
Add 2¢ for the cost of a utility-scale Tesla battery, and renewables with reliable storage are still at half the price of new nuclear power."

Last year the U.S. Dept of Energy said the cost of wind power had reached a new low of 2.5 cents per kilowatt hour (pdf). The cost of solar is typically pegged much higher, but the UN International Energy Agency estimates solar is on a path to a cost of about 4 cents per kilowatt hour in coming decades. 
[Lazard has utility-scale solar at 6 cents in 2017.]

In Illinois, Exelon is threatening to close five nuclear plants because they can’t compete with wind anymore.

ISLAND NATIONS GO 100% RENEWABLE ENERGY

El Hierro, made a splash by becoming the first island in the world fully energy self-sufficient through combined water and wind power.The true novelty of El Hierro is that technicians have managed, without being connected to any national network, to guarantee a stable production of electricity, that comes 100 percent from renewable energy, overcoming the intermittent nature of the wind.

or the residents of Bonaire, an island off the coast of Venezuela, the switch from fossil-fueled to renewable energy systems has made a world of difference.
In 2004, everything changed when a fire destroyed the existing diesel power plant on Bonaire. Although tragic, the situation provided an opportunity for Bonaire to consider what kind of new electricity system to build. Temporary diesel generators were rented to provide power for the short term. Meanwhile, the government and local utility began working together to create a plan that would allow Bonaire to reach a goal of generating 100 percent of its electricity from renewable sources.

CAN WE SAY TO THOSE LIKE THE CHILDREN OF CHERNOBYL, THE HANFORD NUCLEAR SITE, OR FUKUSHIMA, "SORRY, YOU MUST SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES OF NUCLEAR ENERGY BECAUSE WE WERE DUPED INTO BELIEVING THERE WERE NO ALTERNATIVES?
