WIPP NUCLEAR FACILITY REOPENING PLAN

Here's a look at America's deep "salt mine style" nuclear waste disposal site, WIPP in New Mexico. Leaking water, crumbling walls, falling stalactites, an unknown number of faulty storage containers, nonfunctional filtration systems, a fire, all part of the "safety" we can count on from our wonderful government.

1/22/2015 Ceiling Collapse In Wipp Underground Nuclear Storage Site

That this collapse was not reported "for a few days" should not concern us, we're told.

“An 8 by 8 foot section of ceiling in the panel 3 access drift has collapsed at WIPP. The area of the collapse is also in the contaminated areas of the mine. “

A WIPP WORKER DEEP INSIDE THAT MEGA-DUMP, WHERE LEAKY STORAGE BARRELS CAUSED AN ACCIDENT THAT CLOSED THE FACILITY.

ON AND ON GOES THE SAGA OF THE CRUMBLING WIPP NUCLEAR DISPOSAL SITE IN NEW MEXICO.

FOUND GUILTY OF YET MORE RECENT SAFETY VIOLATIONS, WIPP STILL PLANS TO REOPEN, PERHAPS THIS YEAR, BUT DEFINITELY BY MARCH OF 2016.

WORKERS THERE RECENTLY THREATENED A STRIKE, BUT EVEN THAT WON'T STOP WIPP'S HEADLONG DIVE INTO A NEW CHAPTER IN THEIR NUCLEAR NIGHTMARE.

"Reopening WIPP within the next 18 months would be virtually impossible if the department were to follow standard regulatory protocol for the waste dump, which includes public comment on the proposed changes."

AS "CURRENT ARGUS" REPORTED ON OCT. 30, 2015:

At Thursday's monthly town hall meeting (OCT. 29,2015) , Todd Shrader, the new manager for the Department of Energy's Carlsbad Field Office (TODD IS COMING TO YOU FROM THE 2nd MOST RADIOACTIVE SITE ON EARTH, MAYBE, THE HANFORD FACILITY IN WASHINGTON STATE) , said they anticipate receiving the new baseline from NWP next month.

"They will have (in the baseline) what everyone is most interested in, which is the new startup dates. It's still planned for 2016 and we are working hard to keep it that way," Shrader said.
WIPP had been expected to open by March 2016, but the date was pushed back to an unknown date after unexpected delays occurred.
In August, Frank Marcinowski, deputy assistant secretary for Waste Management, said the March 2016 opening date was not feasible because it was made on the assumption that it could be done safely.
Then, a new report released Oct. 15 stated that operations at WIPP were more focused on meeting the scheduled reopening date than doing things correctly, which is why WIPP officials are taking time to be sure the new schedule is a realistic one.
Recovery Manager Jim Blankenhorn at Thursday's meeting.gave a number of updates on Thursday that showed that a large amount of ground control and other recovery activities has been completed at the facility.
Blankenhorn also said officials are looking ahead at what needs to be accomplished before waste emplacement starts back up.
He also explained how the work crew at WIPP will go through "cold operation," which will be eight weeks where the work force at WIPP will prepare for what needs to be done for operational readiness reviews."

ONE CAN READ EVERY SINGLE LIE, I MEAN STATEMENT, ISSUED TO THE PUBLIC BY WIPP ON THEIR OWN WONDERFUL LITTLE WEBSITE  <HERE>

BE SURE TO COPY AND SAVE SO ,WHEN THE TUNE CHANGES, YOU CAN GO BACK AND SEE WHAT THE ORIGINAL "LYRICS" WERE.

For an example....WIPP was supposed to have settled claims against it by Eddy County, New Mexico, before now, but once again escaped having to do so when they were a "no-show" at  a planned meeting to announce that settlement.

"State Rep. Cathrynn Brown said that was what NMED attorney Jeffrey Kendall told them on Thursday during a Radioactive and Hazardous Material Committee meeting in Santa Fe. NMED was supposed to have presented in Carlsbad at the October meeting on the matter, but Brown said they had asked to hold off on the announcement.
Brown said that it could take between 18 to 24 months before funds from the agreement is distributed.
"I know there's a lot involved in this process, but these are funds that have been promised to us," Brown said, adding that she will be keeping her eye on the process as it moves forward.
The settlement comes from fines that were handed down to the Department of Energy by the state in April 2015, following the events that occurred at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant which resulted in a ruptured drum of radioactive waste that shut down the facility."
ACTUALLY, THE DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY (DOE), ON BEHALF OF THE WIPP FACILITY, HAS FOUGHT VERY HARD TO GET FINES AND EXPECTED PAYMENTS LOWERED.

"The deal struck between the department (DOE) and New Mexico forgoes fines and instead applies funds to upgrade federal nuclear facilities and surrounding communities in the state, according to settlement documents."

THIS SHOULD SHOW US THE LOVING RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE NUCLEAR INDUSTRY AND OUR SO-CALLED NUCLEAR REGULATORY AGENCIES AND THE DOE.

SAME GANG OF CRIMINALS, JUST DIFFERENT NAMES.

THE GOVERNMENT ALSO "FORGAVE" A $2 MILLION BONUS FOR "EXEMPLARY PERFORMANCE" AFTER, YES, AFTER WIPP EXPERIENCED AN ONSITE TRUCK FIRE FOLLOWED BY THAT LEAKY MESS FROM LOS ALAMOS WHICH CAUSED A RELEASE OF PLUTONIUM, AMERICIUM AND A FEW OTHER RADIOISOTOPES INTO NEW MEXICO, TEXAS, COLORADO, OKLAHOMA AND SOUTHWARD INTO MEXICO.

HOW LONG THAT RADIOACTIVE LEAK WENT ON HAS NEVER BEEN DEFINITELY ESTABLISHED.

YAAAAY, TEAM!
RIGHT?
NO!
DEEPLY AND TROUBLINGLY WRONG!

AND WHEN WIPP ASSURED AMERICA ON ITS WEBSITE AND IN NEWS MEDIA THAT NO ONE WAS IN DANGER FROM THE LEAKS THERE...

WELL, READ AND SEE WHAT YOU THINK...

"Government Analysis: Up to 592 Trillion Bq of Plutonium equivalent involved in disaster at US nuclear dump WIPP – Over 5,000 times amount in waste drum blamed for WIPP release — Official: “We thought for sure” there were multiple ruptured drums — “It actually was measured” in a city (NO, IN SEVERAL CITIES!) many miles away."

NEW MEXICO PLAGUED BY NUCLEAR SITES

LOS ALAMOS, LIKE WIPP, HAS ALSO RECEIVED AN "INADEQUATE RATING" , BUT WHO CARES?
WE NEED LOS ALAMOS, AS IN , "MUST HAVE THE PRECIOUS!"

"The Los Alamos facility in New Mexico had 38 nuclear criticality safety infractions in the last fiscal year and received an overall performance rating of “does not meet expectations.”
