Police: 1 male, 1 female suspect dead after California mass shooting that killed 14.

One suspect's name is Syed Farook, sources say.

[UPDATE AS OF 2:02 AM, DEC.3, BOTH SUSPECTS ARE NOW IDENTIFIED, THE FEMALE SUSPECT HAVING BEEN NAMED AS TASHFEEN MALIK. SYED FAROOK'S WIFE OF TWO YEARS.

THEIR 6-MONTH-OLD DAUGHTER IS ALIVE AND WITH RELATIVES. SEE COMMENTS SECTION FOR ALL OTHER UPDATES PRIOR TO THIS NEWS.]

AT 6:47 PST (about 10 minutes ago)    Two law enforcement sources identified one of the suspects in the shooting as Syed Farook.
According to public records, a Syed R. Farook worked as an environmental health specialist for San Bernardino County.  It's unclear if it's the same person. The shooting occurred at an event for the county's public health department.

AT 6:33 PM, PST,
Victims' bodies have not yet been moved.
Coroner's investigators were called to the scenes of this morning's mass shooting at the Inland Regional Center and of this afternoon's shootout between suspects and police, but they have not yet identified the dead or removed their bodies, said Robert Shaw, lead supervising deputy coroner for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
The bodies of the other victims remain in the building, Shaw said. Coroner’s investigators have not yet been allowed inside Inland Regional Center to recover the bodies because authorities want to preserve the integrity of the crime scene and allow for the collection of evidence.
ONCE THOUGHT TO HAVE INVOLVED 3 SHOOTERS, POLICE NOW SAY THEY DETAINED A THIRD PERSON AND AT 5:56 PM, THAT PERSON WAS IDENTIFIED AS A MALE.

WARRANT FOR SEARCH IN REDLANDS
San Bernardino police are serving a warrant in the nearby city of Redlands that is related to Wednesday's shooting, a Redlands city spokesman told The Times.
According to the Associated Press, it is a search warrant and is being delivered to a home.

CHICAGO TRIBUNE...

A man and woman in the SUV with assault rifles, handguns and "assault-style clothing" were killed, Police Chief Jarrod Burguan said. A third person who was spotted running away near the scene of the gunbattle was detained, but Burguan said it was unclear if that person had anything to do with the crime.

Police shed no light on a motive for Wednesday's massacre, which came just five days after a gunman opened fire at Planned Parenthood in Colorado, killing three.

MAY HAVE ESCALATED AFTER ONSITE ARGUMENT?

A senior federal official who is monitoring the case said investigators believe one of the shooters left the party after getting into an argument and returned with one or two armed companions.

Local officials, at an evening news conference, said it was not clear if the people involved in the dispute were the same people involved in the shooting.

The shooting sounded like "an organized plot," and preliminary information seems to indicate that "this is personal, and there seems to suggest some element of revenge and retaliation," said Erroll G. Southers, director of Homegrown Violent Extremism Studies at the University of Southern California and a former FBI agent.
"What it says to me, it's someone who's familiar with the facility, it's someone who knew exactly what room they were going to go to, they knew exactly which way they needed to escape," Southers said. "They've done their homework, they know what the response time in this jurisdiction."
Hours later, with police looking for a dark-colored SUV, an officer in the nearby city of Redlands saw a suspect vehicle and tried to pull it over, a law enforcement official speaking on condition of anonymity said.

The SUV crashed, and a gunbattle broke out around 3 p.m.

MIXED EYEWITNESS ACCOUNTS OF HOW MANY SHOOTERS
Cervantes, the police spokeswoman, said there were reports from witnesses of one to three gunmen.

Marcos Aguilera's wife was in the building when the gunfire erupted. He said a shooter entered the building next to his wife's office and opened fire.

Salaheen Kondoker's wife, Annie, an environmental engineer who works for San Bernardino County, was inside the conference room when gunfire erupted at around 11 a.m. local time.
"They just started shooting ... they didn't yell or say anything beforehand," Salaheen Kondoker said his wife told him.Annie was shot twice in the hand and once in the stomach, but doctors said no vital organs were hit, her husband said. She is being treated at Arrowhead County Hospital.

If the identified female was his wife where is the baby? Can anyone at the Times please answer this? Maybe a reporter can ask the brother-in-law, anyone?

Authorities have only recently begun to process the scene at the Inland Regional Center after three devices, which police believe were explosives, were destroyed, said San Bernardino police Chief Jarrod Burguan.

The chief said investigators are not sure what the devices were made of, but that they are "leaning a little bit more toward a pipe bomb-type design."

Bomb squad officers disposed of three devices a couple of hours ago, Burguan said in a news conference late Wednesday.

"We believe that those were explosive devices," Burguan said.

  17. With NO thanks to the LA TIMES, we have learned that the infant is alive & with relatives.
    Great relief!

Farook has a 6-month-old baby who is with the family, Ayloush added. When family members learned of the events that unfolded Wednesday, they believed Farook to be a victim, not a suspect, he said.
