The Center for Biological Diversity, the agency has killed more than 26 million native animals  since 1996.

 Pregnant moms, newborn calves and all Buffalo in between were run for up to 10 miles, through thick woods, sandy hills and flooded river and creeks, all for [DOMESTIC] cows that are not anywhere to be found. 

 The cows come to the West Yellowstone ecosystem in mid-June, but Buffalo pay the price for them year round. Killing them with a hunt, capture and slaughter and finally hazing."

Officials agree to slaughter 600 to 900 Yellowstone bison this winter.

Park officials on Tuesday released details of plans for at least 600 to 900 bison to be killed by hunters or captured and sent to slaughter.

That potentially would be the most in one winter since 2008, and it represents more than 18 percent of the current population of about 4,900 animals. 

Bison migrate annually from the high country of Yellowstone to their historical winter grazing grounds at lower elevations in Montana. Since the 1980s, worry over the animal disease brucellosis has prompted the killing of about 8,200 park bison.

AS THE TEA ROOM HAS SHOWN IN PREVIOUS BLOGS, AS STUDY AFTER STUDY HAS HAD TO CONCLUDE, BISON DO NOT PASS THIS DISEASE TO  DOMESTIC  ANIMALS.

THEY THEMSELVES INVITE THE DISEASE BY ALLOWING ELK ON THEIR GRAZING LANDS, ELK MEAN MONEY, BISON DON'T. 


"Brucellosis can cause cattle, elk and bison to abort their pregnancies.

The disease was brought to the U.S. by cattle and spread to bison in 1917 when bison were corralled with a herd of cattle in Yellowstone Park.

Brucellosis can wreak havoc on a rancher's herd, and a state’s beef exports are restricted if an outbreak leads U.S. Department of Agriculture inspectors to take away the state’s brucellosis-free status.

This happened in 2007 when elk passed the disease to cattle near Yellowstone National Park and caused two brucellosis outbreaks. Montana wasn’t declared brucellois-free until 2009. Another brucellosis outbreak could seriously hurt Montana’s billion-dollar cattle industry.

While it’s been done in a lab (OR SO WE'RE TOLD), in the decades since cattle first passed the disease to bison, there’s been no documented case of bison transmitting the disease to cattle outside a laboratory.

Stephany Seay is a spokesperson for the Buffalo Field Campaign, a non-profit group that advocates for allowing bison to roam freely and has strongly criticized Yellowstone National Park’s and the state of Montana’s bison management.

 “The whole brucellosis argument is simply a theory,” she said. "Since most cattle are pastured and fed hay for the winter, they aren’t likely to come in contact with bison", she says.

 “For buffalo that may be infected with brucellosis, if it was suffering the symptoms, it would miscarry in winter, [when] there’s absolutely no cows on the landscape.”  

Seay believes the talk about brucellosis masks the real reason ranchers want bison managed.

“This war on buffalo is about grass,” she said.
“Buffalo restoration is viewed by the livestock industry as a threat to cattle ranching.”

Yellowstone Superintendent Dan Wenk said in a statement that the National Park Service was uncomfortable with the practice and interested in alternatives, such as sending disease-free animals to other public, private or tribal lands.

"The park would gladly reduce the frequency and magnitude of these operations if migrating bison had access to more habitat outside the park or there was a way to transfer live bison elsewhere," Wenk said.

Two weeks ago, Montana Gov. Steve Bullock approved a plan that for the first time would allow hundreds of bison to roam year-round on about 400 square miles of primarily public lands just west of Yellowstone.

BUT NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE DOES TO SAVE THE BISON, YELLOWSTONE "MANAGERS" ARE DETERMINED TO KILL THEM.

"An adaptive approach to bison management means we look at how we are doing things, assess our effectiveness, and adapt accordingly," said Bullock, CBS affiliate KTVQ reported. "This decision is a very modest expansion of the conditions under which bison may remain outside of the Park."

Unlike most bison in the U.S., Yellowstone's herds are considered genetically pure, making them prized among biologists and the throngs of tourists who come to the park hoping to see one of the animals up-close."

Wildlife Services says that it responds to requests by government agencies nationwide and works to “resolve human/wildlife conflicts” in a strategic way.

Near the turn of the century, it hit a staggering 4 million. Two years later, in 2001, it fell to about 1.5 million and stayed relatively low for six years. But in 2008, the number of kills rocketed to 5 million before trending downward to 3 million over the next four years.
Now it’s back up, well past 4 million in the most recent count, and critics are pressing for a better explanation for why.
Wildlife Services’ primary purpose is to eradicate invasive creatures introduced from other parts of the world. They include greedy feral hogs, giant swamp rats called nutria, big aggressive Argentine lizards called tegus and swarms of hungry starlings that destroy the habitats of animals native to the United States.
But the agency also kills native animals en masse, sometimes based solely on a homeowner’s or farmer’s perception of a threat.

Last December, the Center for Biological Diversity filed a petition demanding that the agency explain the exact reasons it makes each kill of a native animal, for whose benefit and the methods used.

The petition called Wildlife Services “a rogue agency” that was “out of control.”

Rep. Peter A. DeFazio, D-Ore., has railed against the secret methods of Wildlife Services, at one time calling it “one of the most opaque and obstinate departments I’ve dealt with.”

DeFazio has asked to know what goes into poisons used by the agency that are a danger to people and harmless animals, but he hasn’t gotten an answer.

“We’re really not sure what they’re doing,” he said.
