FUKUSHIMA THREAT IS NOT OVER SAYS FORMER PRIME MINISTER NAOTO KAN

IN THE ABOVE VIDEO, FILMED BY ROBOTIC ENDOSCOPY, JANUARY 2912,
" TEPCO's spokesman Matsumoto said in the press conference that the white specs in the video is from gamma rays. White streaks across the screen are water droplets."
This area should be radiation free, that it’s not proves corium has penetrated the PCV of # 2 too.

GAMMA RAYS.
4 YEARS, 10 MONTHS AND COUNTING... EVERY DAY, ALL DAY.

WHILE MAINSTREAM MEDIA HERE IN THE U.S. HAVE ALMOST COMPLETELY STOPPED REPORTING "DEVELOPMENTS" REGARDING THE STILL-LEAKING DAI'ICHI NUCLEAR PLANT, JAPAN'S OWN FORMER LEADER WARNS THAT THE PROBLEM IS FAR FROM OVER.

FROM JAPAN TIMES, 28 JAN. 2016:

“There is no doubt” radioactive materials have been seeping into the sea after mixing with groundwater, Kan, who has been a vocal critic of nuclear energy since the crisis started, told the National Press Club in Washington.

[NOT TO MENTION THE INTENTIONAL DUMPING OF RADIOACTIVE WATER INTO THE PACIFIC, THE BURNING OF RADIOACTIVE WASTE AT ABOUT 50 SITES AROUND JAPAN, THE DAILY FALLOUT FROM THE MELTED-DOWN REACTORS, CONTAMINATION OF GROUNDWATER, CROPS, EVERYTHING 'DOWNWIND',  AND THE OPEN-AIR STORAGE OF MILLIONS OF FLIMSY PLASTIC BAGS FULL OF RADIOACTIVE SOIL.]

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has repeatedly said the issue of water contaminated with radioactive substances at the Fukushima plant is “under control,” including when he was making a pitch for Tokyo as host of the 2020 Olympic Games.

Kan disputes this.
“The accident is still unfolding,” he said.

Kan was prime minister when the world’s worst nuclear crisis since Chernobyl occurred following the massive earthquake and tsunami on March 11, 2011.

29 JANUARY 2016,
SPEAKING OF THE FUKUSHIMA DISASTER, KAN SAID,

“Only a great world war would have had the same impact.”

Kan, now an opposition lawmaker, told an anti-nuclear event in the UK Parliament on Thursday...

“My thoughts on nuclear power changed 180 degrees. The country would go down in ruin,”
It was an impassioned first hand account of the dangers of nuclear energy from a man who presided over the country’s worst national event since the bombing of Nagasaki in 1945.

His speech as part of a panel on Thursday was timely. March 13 will mark the fifth anniversary of the accident, which some scientists say is the most catastrophic nuclear disaster in history.

Rates of thyroid cancer in young people are beginning to climb in Fukushima, just as they were found to in Chernobyl, the panel said.

How to tackle nuclear waste is unresolved.

“Don’t consider Fukushima as something that could never never happen to you. It could,” said Yoshiko Aoki, who runs a centre for evacuees 10km from the site.
"
You don’t want to be apologising to your own children or grandchildren for making a big mistake… Please learn from Fukushima."

Former PM Kan was unequivocal. Renewable power from solar and wind was the best solution."

FROM ASAHI SHIMBUN,  29 JANUARY 2016,
TEPCO STALLS AGAIN

Tokyo Electric Power Co. has postponed inspections by robots to finally confirm the location and state of melted fuel at two damaged reactors of the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant.

The camera-equipped robots were scheduled to enter the containment vessels of the No. 1 and No. 2 reactors within fiscal 2015, which ends in March.
But TEPCO said Jan. 28 that a series of unexpected circumstances, such as poor visibility caused by murky radioactive water, have ruined that plan.

The robot for the No. 1 containment vessel will be redesigned, and the remote-controlled survey will be conducted in fiscal 2016, the utility said, without offering a more specific timetable.

Nuclear fuel assemblies in the No. 1 to No. 3 reactors are believed to have melted and fallen to the bottom of the containment vessels following the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami.

Radiation levels inside the containment vessels remain extremely high, making them too dangerous to be approached by workers.

The remote-controlled robotic probe was seen as crucial in determining conditions inside the containment vessels for the eventual decommissioning of the nuclear plant.

STALL FOLLOWS STALL, NO PROGRESS

For the No. 2 reactor, TEPCO had planned to locate the melted nuclear fuel using a robot last summer.

But decontamination and cleanup work near the entrance to the containment vessel proved difficult.
That prevented TEPCO from carrying out robotic survey as planned."

ONE EXCUSE AFTER ANOTHER.
WHAT IS TEPCO DOING WITH THE BILLIONS IT'S GETTING FROM THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT TO CLEAN THE DAMNED THING UP?
TEPCO KEEPS SAYING THEY'LL START PROJECTS BUT NEVER DO.

THEY KEEP SAYING THINGS ARE IMPROVING ONLY TO HAVE TO ADMIT THINGS ARE WORSE.

THIRD JAPANESE NUCLEAR POWER PLANT RESTARTED DESPITE PROTESTS AND WARNINGS

ALSO FROM ASAHI SHIMBUN, JAN. 28, 2016...

WILL THIS BECOME ANOTHER FUKUSHIMA?

The No. 1 and No. 2 reactors of Kyushu Electric Power Co.’s Sendai nuclear plant in Kagoshima Prefecture were brought back online in August and October, respectively.

The No. 3 unit at Shikoku Electric Power Co.’s Ikata nuclear power plant in Ehime Prefecture is expected to be the next reactor to go online following the ones at the Sendai and Takahama plants.

We are deeply concerned about offline reactors starting up again one after another, especially as there are troubling signs that the bitter lessons from Fukushima are being lost.

Once again we express our opposition to the plan to restart the Takahama plant reactor.

SAFETY CONCERNS BEING IGNORED
In a July 2011 editorial, we called for a major shift in the government’s energy policy to build a society without nuclear power generation.

The first thing to point out about the plan to bring the reactor at the Takahama plant back on stream is that the “safety first” principle has been ignored.

The grim lesson we learned from Fukushima is that nuclear accidents far above anyone's expectations can actually happen.

Fifteen nuclear reactors are located around Wakasa Bay in Fukui Prefecture, including some that are being decommissioned. This area has one of the highest concentrations of nuclear power facilities in the world.
What would happen if a natural disaster, for instance, triggers severe accidents at more than one nuclear power plant in a particular area?

No clear answer has been given to this question, which was raised by the Fukushima triple meltdown.
The NRA (Buclear Regulatory Agency) paid scant attention to this risk in its safety inspection of the reactor at the Takahama plant.

Last year, Kansai Electric Power decided to scrap two small and aged reactors in Fukui Prefecture, where it has 11 reactors in total. But the utility also decided to continue operating three reactors beyond their 40th year of service.

There is no denying that efforts to minimize the safety risks involved in the reactors in the prefecture have been grossly insufficient.

The No. 3 unit at the Takahama plant is a so-called plutonium-thermal reactor which burns mixed oxide (MOX) fuel consisting of plutonium blended with uranium.
[Just like Dai'ichi]

It should not be forgotten that this fact further increases safety concerns among local residents.

POOR SAFETY PROTECTION FOR RESIDENTS

The emergency evacuation plan, which should serve as the last protective shield for local residents during nuclear emergencies, is far from reliable.
Local governments of areas within 30 kilometers of a nuclear power plant are required to develop plans for emergency evacuations of local residents.
A total of 12 municipalities in the three prefectures of Fukui, Kyoto and Shiga are located within that distance of the Takahama plant.
They have a combined population of 179,000.

In the worst case scenario, local residents living within a 30-km radius would be evacuated to 56 cities and towns in the four prefectures of Fukui, Hyogo, Kyoto and Tokushima, according to these plans.
But only seven cities of the 56 municipalities have devised plans to accept evacuees in such a situation, according to a survey by The Asahi Shimbun.

Most of the municipal governments surveyed said they had concerns about factors such as their ability to secure necessary facilities, manpower and materials to accept evacuees and the possibility of vehicles contaminated with radiation entering their areas.
Their anxiety is by no means surprising given that before the Fukushima accident it was not assumed that residents living outside a 10-km radius of a nuclear power plant might have to be evacuated in a nuclear emergency.

Ensuring the effectiveness of evacuation plans requires repeated drills and reviews to evaluate the blueprints.
But no evacuation drill has been conducted under an evacuation plan for an area around the Takahama plant.
It is deeply worrisome to see the reactor being restarted without confirmation of the feasibility and effectiveness of the evacuation plans.

THEY DON'T CARE WHAT THE PEOPLE WANT

In response to anxiety among local residents, many of the local governments of areas within 30 km of the plant asked Kansai Electric Power to give them the right to consent to a plan to restart a reactor.

But the utility rejected their requests, while the central government has stuck to the position that all that is required for a reactor restart is consent from the local governments of the area where it is located.
Restarting a reactor without solving these safety issues can only be described as a premature move.

NO MORE ROOM TO STORE NUCLEAR WASTE
Another big question related to reactor restarts is how to find a location for interim storage of spent nuclear fuel that is piling up in pools within nuclear power complexes."

YET ANOTHER QUESTION WHICH HAS ALSO NOT BEEN ANSWERED...
WHAT ABOUT THE ALMOST 2,000 RESERVOIR DAMS THAT WERE CRACKED BY THE TSUNAMI/EARTHQUAKE IN 2011 THAT HAVE NOT BEEN REPAIRED, RESERVOIRS NEAR THE DISABLED DAI''ICHI PLANT, THE ALSO-DAMAGED DAI'INI SISTER PLANT NO ONE SPEAKS OF?

"In Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima prefectures, the disaster caused damage such as cracks at a total of 1,784 reservoirs and dams.
Ibaraki, Chiba were among those that indicated they did not plan to conduct checks.

There were at least about 9,800 reservoirs with houses and public facilities downstream.

PUBLIC FACILITIES INCLUDING NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS.

IF THESE CRACKED DAMS FAIL IN ANOTHER LARGE EARTHQUAKE, WOULD THEY FLOOD THE NUCLEAR FACILITIES?

FUKUSHIMA IS ONGOING.
THE ABE GOVERNMENT IS DOING EITHER VERY LITTLE OR NOTHING TO SAFEGUARD JAPANESE CITIZENS AND THE REST OF THE WORLD, NOTHING TO STOP THE LEAKS AT DAI'ICHI.

INSTEAD, ABE IS FOCUSED ON THE 2020 OLYMPICS AND REGAINING JAPAN'S MILITARY CAPABILITIES.
HE WANTS "THE BOMB".

MAYBE SOMEONE SHOULD MAKE HIM SIT ON THE REAL BOMB IN JAPAN...FUKUSHIMA'S LEAKING MONSTER.

MAYBE IF HE HAD TO LIVE IN THE SHADOW OF THAT CRUMBLING ABOMINATION HE'D DECIDE TO FOREGO THE OLYMPICS AND WORK AROUND THE CLOCK TO STOP THE POISONING OF BILLIONS AROUND THE WORLD BY THAT BELCHING KILLER.

KAN KNOWS AND ISN'T AFRAID TO SAY SO...
FUKUSHIMA WILL JUST KEEP KILLING.
THE JAPANESE DISASTER IS SPREADING, UNSOLVED, IGNORED, EXCUSED, ALLOWED TO CONTAMINATE AN ENTIRE OCEAN, AN ENTIRE WORLD.

WHETHER ABE SEES THIS AS "PAYBACK" FOR HIROSHIMA AND NAGASAKI, AS SOME HAVE SURMISED, WE MAY NEVER KNOW.

THAT HE OBVIOUSLY DOES NOT GIVE A DAMN ABOUT HIS OWN PEOPLE OR US IS UNDENIABLE.
