PROJECT ICEWORM: 2,500 MILES OF TUNNELS FOR NUCLEAR WEAPONS TO TARGET RUSSIA

The U.S. Army's Top Secret Arctic City Under the Ice. "Camp Century" Restored Classified Film.

The above video is the actual declassified US ARMY FILM documenting the construction process.
What really happened there afterwards remains a mystery.

DURING THE 'COLD WAR', FOR ABOUT 7 YEARS, 1959 TO 1966, AMERICA WORKED ON  CONSTRUCTION OF A MASSIVE UNDERGROUND MOBILE MISSILE  FACILITY IN GREENLAND, COMPLETE WITH A NUCLEAR REACTOR.

IT WAS TO HAVE HOUSED ABOUT 600 NUCLEAR MISSILES AIMED AT RUSSIA.

THE MILITARY BASE BUILT ABOVE THE UNDERGROUND TUNNEL SYSTEM WAS A "COVER" FOR WHAT WAS GOING ON BELOW.

"CAMP CENTURY" WAS WELL KNOWN TO LOCALS AND NEVER  HIDDEN OR DENIED BY THE AMERICAN GOVERNMENT.
IT WAS WHAT WAS UNDERNEATH THAT VERY FEW KNEW EXISTED.

DENMARK WAS KEPT IN THE DARK ABOUT THE REAL REASON AMERICA ESTABLISHED A BASE IN ITS NORTHERN TERRITORY.

IT WAS RECENTLY ANNOUNCED THAT, DUE TO UNEXPECTED AND RAPID MELTING OF GREENLAND'S ICE SHEET, THE BURIED FACILITY AND ALL ITS BIOLOGICAL, CHEMICAL AND RADIOACTIVE WASTE WILL SOON POSE A THREAT TO THE ENTIRE AREA.

'GLOBAL WARMING' IS SLOWLY UNCOVERING WHAT AMERICA THOUGHT WOULD BE BURIED FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS.

NOW, DENMARK IS DEMANDING ANSWERS AS TO WHAT ALL IS BURIED THERE, WHAT WAS LEFT BEHIND, AND WE MAY SEE THE FULL EXTENT OF ONE OF AMERICA'S MOST SECRET 'PROJECTS' UNCOVERED AFTER OVER 50 YEARS.

[NOTE: WHILE GREENLANDERS VOTED FOR AN AUTONOMOUS NATION AND WERE GRANTED 'SELF-RULE' IN 1979, IT IS STILL A DEPENDENT TERRITORY OF DENMARK, ANSWERABLE TO THE DANISH ROYAL GOVERNMENT SINCE IT WAS ESTABLISHED AS A DANISH PROVINCE IN 1953]

WHAT WE KNOW, SO FAR...

"Soldiers left behind just under 53,000 gallons of diesel fuel and 63,000 gallons of waste water, including sewage.

[MY NOTE: THAT'S RATHER HARD TO BELIEVE. AS MANY AS 200 MEN WERE STATIONED THERE AT ANY GIVEN TIME FOR ALMOST 6 YEARS AND THEY LEFT "ONLY" A FEW THOUSAND GALLONS OF WASTE WATER?]

Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and an unknown amount of low-level radioactive coolant from the generator also are believed to be there.

[SEE  What Are The Human Health Effects Of PCBs?]

The thought was for soldiers to just leave, allowing the base to be buried under snow and ice, never to be seen again."

HOW MUCH OF THAT 'WASTE WATER' WAS FROM THE COOLING TANKS OF THE NUCLEAR REACTOR THERE?
WE DON'T KNOW.

WERE ANY FUEL RODS LEFT BEHIND?
WAS THE REACTOR REALLY REMOVED?
WE DON'T KNOW.

"The concern is that, once that happens, chemicals will start seeping into waterways , affecting the environment in unknown ways, though a political battle about how to clean it up is sure to ensue -- and researchers say it is only a matter of time."

CHEMICALS?
IT ISN'T JUST THE CHEMICALS.

THAT MENTION WAS MADE OF TESTING THE GLACIER WATER FOR PLAGUE, MAY WE NOT IMAGINE THAT THE U.S. WAS ALSO DABBLING IN BIOLOGICAL WARFARE RESEARCH THERE IN GREENLAND?

DID THEY LEAVE BIOLOGICAL 'STOCK' DOWN BELOW THE ICE?

IF SO, WHAT'S THERE?

AND THEN THERE'S THE RADIATION... A NUCLEAR REACTOR, AND HOW MANY MISSILES WERE EVER THERE?

WHAT ELSE WAS THERE?

"United States military officials in the 1960s thought it could be thousands of years before an abandoned base in Greenland was again visible without a lot of digging, but that's only because they didn't count on the Greenland Ice Sheet melting so soon.

In a study published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters, researchers lay out the history of Camp Century, built by the the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers about 125 miles inland from Greenland's coast and referred to as the "city under the ice."

ICE CORES WERE DRILLED TO DETERMINE THE MOVEMENT OF THE ICE, AS SHOWN ABOVE. NOTE THE POSITION OF 'CAMP CENTURY' IN THE UPPER PART OF THE MAP.

A BRIEF HISTORY:

The facility, including its nuclear power plant, was profiled in The Saturday Evening Post magazine in 1960.

From 1960 until 1963 the electricity supply was provided by means of the world's first mobile/portable nuclear reactor, designated the PM-2A and designed by Alco for the U.S. Army.

Water was supplied by melting glaciers and tested to determine if pathogens, such as the plague virus, were present.

According to the documents published by Denmark in 1997, the U.S. Army's "Iceworm" missile network was outlined in a 1960 Army report titled "Strategic Value of the Greenland Icecap".

If fully implemented, the project would cover an area of 52,000 square miles (130,000 km2), roughly three times the size of Denmark. The launch complex floors would be 28 feet (8.5 m) below the surface, with the missile launchers even deeper, and clusters of missile launch centers would be spaced 4 miles (6.4 km) apart. New tunnels were to be dug every year, so that after five years there would be thousands of firing positions, among which the several hundred missiles could be rotated.

The Army intended to deploy a shortened, two-stage version of the U.S. Air Force's Minuteman missile, a variant the Army proposed calling the Iceman

Despite its seeming stability, the icecap is, in fact, in constant, slow movement, spreading outward from the center. This spreading movement, over the course of a year, causes tunnels and trenches to narrow, as their walls deform and bulge, eventually leading to a collapse of the ceiling. By mid-1962 the ceiling of the reactor room within Camp Century had dropped and had to be lifted 5 feet (1.5 m). During a planned reactor shutdown for maintenance in late July 1963, the Army decided to operate Camp Century as a summer-only camp and did not reactivate the PM-2A reactor.

Within three years after it was excavated, ice core samples taken by geologists working at Camp Century demonstrated that the glacier was moving much faster than anticipated and would destroy the tunnels and planned launch stations in about two years.

The camp resumed operations in 1964 using its standby diesel power plant, the portable reactor was removed that summer, and the camp was abandoned altogether in 1966.

Project Iceworm was canceled, and Camp Century closed in 1966.

OR SO WE MUST ASSUME....
