"Highway Patrol Lt. Tom Iverson says the people refused orders to leave the governor's residence on the Capitol grounds. The arrests follow those earlier Thursday of 14 protesters who were sitting, chanting and singing in a wing of the Capitol and refused orders to leave.
[THEY WERE PRAYING ALOUD...NOT "CHANTING".]
Iverson says the 17 individuals face criminal trespass charges in Burleigh County. He says at one point about 100 demonstrators were massed on a residential street near the Capitol.
Their protest followed an interfaith day of prayer in the southern part of the state near the small town of Cannon Ball. Hundreds of clergy sang hymns and marched near the route of the pipeline.

Authorities in North Dakota have arrested 14 protesters of the Dakota Access pipeline whom they said refused to leave a wing of the Capitol in Bismarck.
The demonstrators were singing hymns Thursday afternoon in the judicial wing of the Capitol."

Journalists Face Charges for Dakota Pipeline Protest Coverage
The Democracy Now! host is free but a documentary maker who was also arrested for committing journalism faces a potential 45 years in prison.
Update, Oct. 17, 4:30 p.m.: Judge John Grinsteiner refused to authorize the charges against Amy Goodman. “This is a complete vindication of my right as a journalist to cover the attack on the protesters, and of the public’s right to know what is happening with the Dakota Access pipeline,” she said in a statement. The charges against Deia Schlosberg still stand, and authorities have not ruled out future charges against Goodman.
“I came back to North Dakota to fight a trespass charge. They saw that they could never make that charge stick, so now they want to charge me with rioting,” Goodman said in a statement posted to Democracy Now!’s website on Saturday. “I wasn’t trespassing, I wasn’t engaging in a riot, I was doing my job as a journalist by covering a violent attack on Native American protesters.”
The charges against Goodman have been denounced by press freedom advocates. “How North Dakota did not immediately realize this was all a horrible mistake on their part is beyond reason. The only explanation seems to be that they want to silence First Amendment-protected speech and intimidate other journalists into not covering the protests,
…A prosecutor who arrests a reporter because he doesn’t think she’s “balanced” enough is basically telling future reporters what needs to be in their stories to avoid arrest. This is totally improper and un-American. We have enough meddling editors in this country without also recruiting government officials to the job."
AFTER A FEW MONTHS OF ARRESTING, BEATING, TASING, MACING, GASSING, ETC, INDIGENOUS PEOPLE, THE STORM TROOPERS OF NORTH DAKOTA DECIDED TO TEACH A LESSON TO 50 OR SO PROTESTERS FROM THE LOCAL CLERGY WHO SHOWED UP IN A SIT-IN AT THE STATE CAPITOL IN BISMARK...THE SAME BISMARK THAT HALTED THE PIPELINE AS IT APPROACHED THE CITY'S WATER SUPPLY AND HAD IT REROUTED ACROSS ANCIENT TRIBAL LAND.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol said the demonstrators were participating in a sit-in inside the Judicial Wing, and were arrested for disorderly conduct, KFYR-TV reports.
The Capitol was put under lockdown at around 4:15 p.m., due to the protest activity.

Security Firm Guarding Dakota Pipeline Used Psychological Warfare Tactics for BP
"G4S, a company hiring security staff to guard the hotly contested Dakota Access pipeline (DAPL), also works to guard oil and gas industry assets in war-torn Iraq, and has come under fire by the United Nations for human rights abuses allegedly committed while overseeing a BP pipeline in Colombia and elsewhere while on other assignments.
[G4S HAS DENIED THAT ITS HIRELINGS WERE THE ONES WHO UNLEASHED THE ATTACK DOGS AND PEPPER SPRAY AGAINST THE PROTESTERS THAT FIRST TIME.HOWEVER THEY HAD ADS IN BISMARK AND OTHER NEWSPAPERS HIRING FOR THE AREA.]
Dubbed the “Chaos Company” in an April 2014 Vanity Fair article, G4S is often brought into the stickiest situations, such as overseeing security for the Basrah Gas Company, an Iraqi natural gas company which Shell, Mitsubishi, and South Oil Company jointly own.
G4S also has security contracts with the U.S. Department of Defense at both Guantanamo Bay Detention Center and the controversial U.S. military base in Diego Garcia.
The British human rights group Reprieve called for an investigation of G4S as it pertains to human rights abuses which took place at Guantanamo.
In 2008, G4S acquired the company ArmorGroup International PLC as a wholly-owned subsidiary.
This company has been on the public radar in recent years for being mired in a human trafficking scandal in Afghanistan while guarding the U.S.Embassy in Kabul on a U.S. State Department contract.
The U.S. Department of Justice had sued ArmorGroup for allegedly violating the Trafficking Victims Protection Act, settling the lawsuit in 2011 for $7.5 million.

G4S is not the only private contractor identified on the ground in or around the Sacred Stone Camp related to the Dakota Access pipeline protests.
The show “Democracy Now!” revealed that a man who is employed by the firm Torchlight USA, LLC, but is appearing as a freelancer, also showed up in North Dakota. And court documents from the ongoing case in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia pitting the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe against the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reveal that another firm, 10-Code LLC — founded and run by a former Bismarck Police Department detective named Paul Olson — also has entered the fold.
In that vein, the North Dakota Private Investigation and Security Board announced that it has opened up an investigation into the private security firms deployed to patrol the pipeline protests led by the Standing Rock Sioux and whether those firms were even licensed to work in the state. In addition, a local county sheriff’s office has begun a similar investigation with the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigations, exploring the Labor Day weekend clash between security firms and protesters at a DAPL site.
The North Dakota Private Investigation and Security Board said it could not comment on which companies have fallen under the purview of its ongoing investigation."

Two pipeline projects from Alberta to the Canadian coast face such stiff opposition that some analysts say they're unlikely to be built.
Meanwhile, the project's opponents argue that the nation can now afford to put environmental priorities before the oft-cited need to bolster U.S. oil supplies. If oil must be burned--a necessary evil, perhaps--they say it would be best to avoid the tar sands oil, which is significantly dirtier to produce and refine.
"One of the most compelling arguments for building the Keystone XL pipeline is that it will increase the profits of oil producers," Christopher Knittel, a professor of energy economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, told a House committee last week , dismissing the proposed project's effects on consumer prices as trivial."

"Standing Rock Sioux Tribe chairman Dave Archambault II told NBC News on Sunday the tribe had asked the U.S. Department of Justice to intervene in the escalating situation with law enforcement.
