WORSE THAN CHERNOBYL; JAPANESE FOOD PRODUCTS STILL RADIOACTIVE

WASHINGTON POST, AUGUST 23, 2019: South Korea said it had summoned a Japanese diplomat to express concerns about the possibility that treated radioactive groundwater stored at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant might someday be released into the ocean — although Japan says the meeting came at its request. A day later, South Korea’s Olympics delegation raised worries about radiation at an international meeting with Tokyo Games organizers, while on Wednesday, Seoul’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety said it would double the radiation testing of some Japanese food imports because of contamination fears.

In April, South Korea won the bulk of an appeal at the World Trade Organization supporting its right to ban and test seafood from Japan.

“We forget that the water cycle and the life cycle are one.” — Jacques Cousteau

“When drinking water, remember its source.” — Chinese proverb

“Radiation along Fukushima rivers up to 200 times higher than Pacific Ocean seabed.”

“These river samples were taken in areas where the [Prime Minister Shinzo] Abe government is stating it is safe for people to live. But the results show there is no return to normal after this nuclear catastrophe,”said Ai Kashiwagi.

IN 2011, WE WERE TOLD THAT MOST OF THE FALLOUT FROM THE EXPLOSIONS LANDED IN THE PACIFIC OCEAN, BUT IN 2016, WE WERE TOLD "MOST FELL ON THE LAND, IN GLASS NANOPARTICLES THAT ARE WATER INSOLUBLE" AND THAT THEY FELL AS FAR AWAY AS TOKYO.
WHICH IS IT?
WHERE ELSE DID THEY FALL?

THE SCIENTISTS CONDUCTING THOSE STUDIES STATED THAT THIS CHANGES HOW WE LOOK AT FALLOUT AND ITS LONG-TERM EFFECT ON HUMANS.

THERE WAS ALSO A "NEW" THING DISCOVERED FROM THOSE EXPLOSIONS...CALLED "URANIUM BUCKY BALLS", WHICH TRAVEL ON TOP OF THE WATER AND ARE NOT DISSOLVED, BUT ARE BLOWN ONTO LAND BY ONSHORE WINDS. SOME OF THOSE WOUND UP ON AMERICA'S WEST COAST.

"According to a recent UC Davis study, these uranium-filled nanospheres were created from the millions of tons of fresh and salt water used to try to cool down three molten cores of the stricken reactors at Japan’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. The tiny and tough buckyballs are shaped like soccer balls.

Water hitting the incredibly hot and radioactive, primarily uranium-oxide fuel turns it into peroxide. In this goo mix, buckyballs are formed, loaded with uranium and able to move quickly through water without disintegrating."

In April of 2013, the "situation" attracted the attention of the International Atomic Energy Agency, which sent a team of experts to review the decommissioning effort. They warned "Japan may need longer than the projected 40 years to clean up the site".

NEWS FEW READ, OR NEWS FEW ARE WILLING TO PRINT?

APRIL 27, 2018

"The radiation dispersed into the environment by the three reactor meltdowns at Fukushima-Daiichi in Japan has exceeded that of the April 26, 1986 Chernobyl catastrophe.

Total atmospheric releases from Fukushima are estimated to be between 5.6 and 8.1 times that of Chernobyl, according to the 2013 World Nuclear Industry Status Report.
Professor Komei Hosokawa, who wrote the report’s Fukushima section, told London’s Channel 4 News then, “Almost every day new things happen, and there is no sign that they will control the situation in the next few months or years.”

Total release of Cesium-137 to the environment from Fukushima: 152 to 164 quadrillion Becquerel.
Total release of Cesium-137 into the environment from Chernobyl: between 70 and 110 quadrillion Bq.

Ocean release of cesium-137 from Fukushima (the worst ever recorded): 121.6 to 131.2 quadrillion Becquerel (16% x 760 to 820 quadrillion Bq).

Atmospheric release of Cesium-137 from Fukushima: 30.4 to 32.8 quadrillion Becquerel (4% x 760 to 820 quadrillion Bq).

CHERNOBYL RELEASED NO RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL DIRECTLY INTO ANY SEA.
Tokyo Electric Power Co. has estimated that about 900 peta-becquerels (of radiation) have spewed from Fukushima, and the updated 2016 TORCH Report estimates that Chernobyl dispersed 110 peta-becquerels.

Contamination of soil, vegetation and water is so widespread in Japan that evacuating all the at-risk populations could collapse the economy.

The concrete cover that stopped much radiation at Chernobyl was erected in less than two years. The giant new cover at Chernobyl is 350 feet high, and engineers say it should last 100 years — far short of the 250,000-year radiation hazard underneath."

JAPAN STATES IT WILL BE 40 TO 100 YEARS BEFORE DAIICHI CAN BE COMPLETELY CLEANED UP AND DECOMMISSIONED.

THEY CANNOT BUILD A SARCOPHAGUS OVER DAIICHI BECAUSE
(1)THE CORIUM FROM 3 REACTORS HAS NOT BEEN FOUND AND
(2)THE PLANT SITS ATOP A MAJOR AQUIFER.
(3) RUNOFF FROM THE MOUNTAINS NEAR THE PLANT CARRIES RADIOACTIVE  WATER FROM THE PLANT'S BASEMENT INTO THE PACIFIC AFTER EVERY  RAINSTORM.

BECAUSE JAPAN IS A SMALL NATION AND BECAUSE THERE IS SO MUCH RADIOACTIVE WASTE, THE GOVERNMENT THERE EXPECTS ALL  AREAS TO SHARE IN THE STORAGE OF NUCLEAR WASTE.

"In 2015, the Science Council of Japan, a national body that represents scientists and operates independently of the government, released a series of recommendations that called for storing the waste in provisional, above-ground facilities for a half century."

[WON'T THOSE GLOW IN THE DARK?]

ONE OF THE BIG PROBLEMS WITH THAT IS, "STORAGE" IS MAINLY CRAMMING WASTE IN PLASTIC BAGS AND PILING THOSE ANYWHERE THERE IS SPACE, EVEN IN SCHOOL YARDS, PUBLIC PARKS AND APARTMENT COMPLEX PARKING LOTS.

The new government limit for material headed for landfills is 8000 bq/kg, 80 times the pre-Fukushima limit.

CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING REGARDING CHERNOBYL, A NUCLEAR ACCIDENT THAT INVOLVED ONE REACTOR CORE, AND COMPARE THOSE FACTS TO THE JAPANESE TRIPLE-MELTDOWN AT FUKUSHIMA.

THEN ASK YOURSELF; WOULD YOU REALLY EAT FOOD FROM JAPAN IF YOU KNEW IT CAME FROM JAPAN?

Chernobyl radiation map: Radiation levels reached as far away as Sweden (683 miles away) and Wales in the UK (1433 miles away).

THE U.K.'S WEATHER SERVICE, THE MET OFFICE, MONITORED THE FALLOUT FROM CHERNOBYL AS IT DISPERSED OVER EUROPE FOR WEEKS, THE PATTERN OF THAT DISPERSAL IN A TIME LAPSE GIF SHOWS THE AMAZING EXTENT OF HIGH-LEVEL CONTAMINATION
 IN ALL DIRECTIONS FROM CHERNOBYL.
(NOTE: That GIF runs fr a long time, so give it time to run out.)

The World Health Organization says an estimated 7,722 square miles of land in Europe was affected by radiation.

Clean-up of the Chernobyl exclusion zone is expected to continue until at least 2065, after which time, potentially, the exclusion zone could be
re-inhabited.  .
Livestock in those areas had to undergo testing before the animals were allowed to be sold for public consumption.

Tests for radiation were carried out for another decade following the accident.
Some restrictions on Welsh and Cumbrian sheep farms were only finally lifted in 2012.
This was after the Food Standards Agency (FSA) there was only a “very low risk” still in place and the levels of controls were not “proportionate”.

"The word that they use officially is 'low risk'. But risk is a very difficult question when you deal with low level radiation. There is great uncertainty, and extrapolation is only possible with time and we will only see in the next generation or generation after that whether there are any significant effects to be demonstrated then." --Professor Glyn O. Phillips, a consultant to the International Atomic Agency for more than 20 years, specializing in the effects of radiation on the human body, an ardent supporter of nuclear energy production, but worried the Chernobyl story may not yet be over in Wales.

YES, WALES, OVER 1400 MILES FROM CHERNOBYL.

"Within weeks of the fire that started at about 01:30 BST on 26 April, over 30 years ago, hill farmers across north Wales were also dragged into the developing crisis.

Heavy rain in April and May drenched higher ground with alarming quantities of radioactive cesium and iodine.
The authorities reacted by imposing a blanket ban on the sale of ALL farm animals.

At the time, milk was found to have radiation levels of 225 becquerels per liter, 200 times the normal amount."

NO BURNING ALLOWED
People under the plume of radiation were warned not to burn wood for fuel or burn brush or leaves or weeds there as it would release radiation.

Wildfires near Cherobyl in 2015 and 2018 released large amounts of radiation into the atmosphere yet again and there is fear that more fires will do the same.

An international study in 2014 concluded that the release of Cesium-137 from "hypothetical" wildfires in Chernobyl's forests would be classified as "high" on the International Nuclear Events Scale (INES) -- a tool used to communicate the safety significance of nuclear and radiological events to the public.

Other studies have shown that radioactive smoke settling on crops even 150 kilometers from a fire can concentrate radiation in food to the point that it is harmful to eat.

BUT JAPAN IS OPEN-AIR BURNING RADIOACTIVE WASTE.
THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE 2011.

"Flammable debris will go to TEPCO’s subsidiary (Tokyo Rinkai Recycle Power) and be burned after November 6, and non-flammable debris will be simply buried in the landfill."

Steven Starr – Senior Scientist, Physicians for Social Responsibility, and Director of the Clinical Laboratory Science Program at the University of Missouri-Columbia, who has advised numerous countries on issues of nuclear non-proliferation – wrote a comment to the post agreeing:

"Burning radioactive debris will only serve to further randomly spread radiation across Japan, as well as the rest of the world. Not only will this lead to more morbidity and mortality within Japan, but it will further complicate epidemiological studies of the Fukushima disaster. Raising “acceptable” levels of radioactive fallout is a false solution to a serious problem. It is possible for the government authorities to do this because radiation is invisible to us, and at lower doses, the consequences of exposure do not manifest themselves for some time . . . thus it is a poison that is easy to hide and ignore. Sadly, the children of Japan will be those most seriously affected by this man-made environmental catastrophe."

IN 2018, CITIZENS THERE FILED SUIT TO STOP OPEN-AIR BURNING.

Fuji TV news also said that 3,000 complaints had been sent to the Tokyo Metropolitan government, over 90% of them protesting against the debris from disaster-affected areas to be transported, processed, crushed and burned and buried in Tokyo Bay.

In response to the first citizen demands, Shintaro Ishihara, governor of Tokyo, stated in November 2011:
“Shut up is all we need to say to these complaints. It is a fate for children to accept radiation contamination.”

AFTER CHERNOBYL, SOIL CONTAMINATION WAS FOUND ALL OVER THE NORTHERN HEMISPHERE.

In March 2005, the Oxford Journals also reported: “The releases of radioactive materials were such that contamination of the ground was found to some extent in every country in the Northern Hemisphere.”

On May 1986, The Associated Press wrote: “An invisible cloud of radioactivity… has worked its way gradually around the world.”

The Duluth Herald also wrote in May 1986, “Airborne radioactivity from the Chernobyl nuclear accident is now so widespread that it is likely to fall to the ground wherever it rains in the United States.”

Overall, the World Nuclear Association estimates at least five per cent of the reactor’s nuclear material leaked into the atmosphere.

DOES THE ABE GOVERNMENT EXPECT US TO BELIEVE THAT THE FUKUSHIMA DISASTER WON'T AFFECT THE PLANET IN THE SAME MANNER SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY SAY SO?

A 30 kilometer (18.6 miles) exclusion zone was set up around Chernobyl which covers 1,000 square miles.and over 300,000 people were evacuated.

THAT EXCLUSION ZONE WILL NOT BE LIFTED UNTIL, AT THE EARLIEST, 2065.

ABE IS LIFTING BANS ON RETURN JUST 7 YEARS AFTER THE TRIPLE-MELTDOWN.

The EPA recommends that our exposure to background radiation should not exceed 100 millirem a year, which is 1 millisievert, although we ordinarily are exposed to about 300 to 600 millirems in the US from "background radiation".
(3 TO 6 millisieverts).

After the Daiichi explosions, Japan upped its "acceptable" radiation level to 20 millisieverts per year, 20 times the "safe level" of other nations.

30 YEARS AFTER CHERNOBYL, THERE IS STILL A BAN ON FORAGING FOOD THERE AND ALL WILD FOOD, PLANTS AND ANIMALS, FROM THE EXCLUSION ZONE ARE PERMANENTLY BANNED FROM MARKETS.

30 YEARS
LATER AND HUMANS ARE STILL UNABLE TO SAFELY LIVE THERE.

[USA Today reports there are currently about 180 of what are called 'samosely' - mostly elderly people who either refused to evacuate or sneaked back into their homes after being forced to leave - living in the exclusion zone, though it remains illegal to live there.]

30 YEARS AFTER CHERNOBYL, EVERYTHING THERE IS STILL CONTAMINATED. THE DNA OF BIRDS CAPTURED FROM THE AREA SHOWS SERIOUS DAMAGE.

30 YEARS LATER AND CHILDREN ARE STILL BORN WITH HORRIFIC DEFORMITIES AND THE CANCER RATE REMAINS HIGH.

30 YEARS...
IT'S BEEN 8 YEARS SINCE FUKUSHIMA.

JAPAN'S GOVERNMENT WANTS THE WORLD TO ACCEPT FOOD EXPORTS FROM THAT SMALL ISLAND NATION, DECLARING IT TO BE FREE OF RADIATION.

WELSH SHEEP WERE NOT CLEARED FOR CONSUMPTION FOR 16 YEARS AFTER THE CHERNOBYL MELTDOWN AND WALES IS OVER 1400 MILES FROM CHERNOBYL.

DOES JAPAN REALLY WANT US TO BELIEVE THAT ALL WINDS BLOW AWAY FROM JAPAN TOWARD THE SEA AND NOT INLAND... EVER?

DOES NO WIND BLOW ACROSS DAIICHI ONTO JAPANESE FARMLANDS, NO WINDS  BLOWING THE CONTINUOUS RADIATION STILL BEING EMITTED BY THREE DESTROYED REACTORS;
 -FROM TONS OF CONTAMINATED WATER THEY PUMP INTO THE SEA EACH DAY AND STORE IN SHODDY, LEAKY TANKS;
 -FROM MILLIONS OF FLIMSY PLASTIC BAGS OF CONTAMINATED WASTE AND SOIL PILED ALL OVER JAPAN;
-FROM OPEN-AIR BURN SITES THAT JAPAN UTILIZES TO GET RID OF DAILY NUCLEAR WASTE USED BY WORKERS:
-FROM THE SO-CALLED "CLEANUP PROJECT" AT FUKUSHIMA AND SURROUNDING AREAS?

IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO DECONTAMINATE FORESTS AND MOUNTAINS, SO WHAT HAPPENS WHEN IT RAINS ON THOSE PLACES IN JAPAN?

NO RADIOACTIVE RAIN FALLS ONTO CROPLANDS EVEN FAR FROM FUKUSHIMA?
NO RAIN WATER FINDS IT WAY DEN HILLS AND MOUNTAINS INTO FIELDS ALL OVER JAPAN?

RAIN DAMNED WELL CONTAMINATED WALES AND SCOTLAND, 1400+ MILES AWAY, FOR ALMOST 20 YEARS!

DOES SHINZO ABE EXPECT COGNIZANT HUMANS WITH FUNCTIONAL BRAINS TO BELIEVE IT'S SAFE FOR PEOPLE TO LIVE IN THOSE HIGHLY CONTAMINATED AREAS, TO LIVE DOWNWIND FROM FUKUSHIMA (WHICH LIES ON THE COAST WITH CONSTANT COASTAL WINDS BLOWING INLAND ALL DAY, EVERY DAY), TO EAT FOOD FROM ANYWHERE IN JAPAN, TO DRINK THE WATER THERE, SAFELY BREATHE THE AIR, AFTER JUST 8 YEARS

FOR JUST ONE RADIONUCLIDE, CESIUM-137, WHATEVER FELL ON JAPANESE SOIL (ANY SOIL) WILL REMAIN THERE FOR 30 TO AS LONG AS 320 YEARS.
"Cesium 137's half-life – the time it takes for half of a given amount of material to decay – is 30 years, but the amount of cesium in soil near Chernobyl isn't decreasing nearly that fast. And scientists don't know why.

Scientists have calculated that what they call cesium's "ecological half-life" – the time for half the cesium to disappear from the local environment – is between 180 and 320 years.

"Normally you'd say that every 30 years, it's half as bad as it was. But it's not," said Tim Jannik, nuclear scientist at Savannah River National Laboratory and a collaborator on the work. "It's going to be longer before they repopulate the area."

[SEE "Long-Term Dynamics of Radionuclides Vertical Migration in Soils of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant Exclusion Zone" by Yu.A. Ivanov, V.A. Kashparov, S.E. Levchuk, G.T. Jannik, et al.]

From an article by 'ORIGIN", the History Departments at The Ohio State University and Miami University, April 2016:
Eating at You: Food and Chernobyl

"The experience, however, in Japan after the 2011 meltdown of three Fukushima reactors hardly inspires confidence.

The Japanese government and Tepco, the corporation that owns the plant, failed to acknowledge the meltdown and release of radioactive isotopes for two full months after the tsunami. The denials delayed the evacuation of exposed residents.

State officials only minimally monitored food and soils, so citizens were forced to organize their own dosimetry. Meanwhile, the Japanese government raised the annual radiation dose to 20 millisieverts, several times higher than the International Commission on Radiological Protection recommends.

Today, solid and liquid waste from the accident is piling up, awaiting a final nuclear storage site. Likewise in limbo, over 100,000 evacuees in temporary quarters are waiting to either return home or receive new ones.
Already, researchers have recorded an alarming spike in thyroid cancer among exposed children. Research on the health of the ecology and marine life near Fukushima has been scarce, and funded by small, private foundations so that scientists today cannot provide basic answers about the accident's harm to either health or the environment."

CNBC, MARCH 10, 2016:
"Scientists continue to find found small amounts of radioactive material along the West Coast of North America. And some of them say we should expect to see this in the ocean for decades to come. Elevated levels found off the coast of Japan show that the situation is not yet under control, and that the facility is still leaking radiation."

IT WILL LEAK FAR MORE THAN 'JUST' CESIUM OR TRITIUM UNTIL IT IS CLEANED UP AND DECOMMISSIONED AND ALL HIGH-LEVEL WASTE IS PROPERLY BURIED.

Nearly 17 Tons of Radioactive Materials Detected in Japanese Food Imports

AUGUST 30, 2019
KBS World Radio News

"Amid a renewed radiation scare sparked by news Tokyo could be considering dumping radioactive water from the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster into the Pacific Ocean, KBS has obtained a list of Japanese food imports from which radioactive materials were detected over the past five years. The list includes household food items like coffee and chocolate.
Choi You Sun reports.

Report: The office of South Korea's minor opposition Bareunmirae Party Rep. Chang Jung-sook said nearly 17 tons of radioactive materials were detected in more than a dozen processed food categories imported from Japan between 2014 and June of this year.

Documents from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety on Thursday showed the 19 food categories include roasted coffee, tea, chocolate, fish jerky, peanuts, and processed fish products.

There were eleven cases of detection in 2014, six in both 2015 and 2016, four in 2017, six last year and two this year through June.

KBS has learned popular Japanese chocolate, candy and drip coffee brands were on the list; the drip coffee is currently being sold at Japanese food supply stores in South Korea.

Some of the products, such as talcum powder used to make chewing gum and bilberry extract in dietary supplements, were found to have been manufactured in the nuclear-hit Fukushima and seven other prefectures subject to Seoul's ban on fish product imports.

The Seoul city government, meanwhile, plans to inspect 160 items ranging from Japanese fishery products to confection made from Japanese food ingredients over the next month and post the outcome on its official website."

REPEATED VIOLATIONS, FOR FOUR YEARS STRAIGHT?
THAT'S NO 'ACCIDENT'!

HAS KOREA BEEN TESTING EVERY YEAR SINCE 2011?

HOW MANY NATIONS ARE TESTING FOR CESIUM-134, CALLED THE 'FUKUSHIMA MARKER" SINCE, WITH A HALF LIFE OF JUST YEARS, IT CAN ONLY BE FROM FUKUSHIMA?

SOUTH KOREA WAS ONE OF THE FIRST NATIONS TO EXTEND THE BAN ON JAPANESE FOOD IMPORTS AND STRENGTHENED THAT BAN IN 2013.

WHILE SOME NATIONS ARE LEERY OF JAPAN'S GUARANTEES THAT NO RADIATION IS IN THEIR EXPORTS, AMERICA'S FDA HAS OBVIOUSLY SKIPPED TESTING.
OTHER NATIONS MUST CARE WHAT THEIR CITIZENS CONSUME AND, BECAUSE THEY DO TEST JAPANESE IMPORTS, THEY FIND RADIATION.

ONCE UPON A TIME, MANY NATIONS HAD TIGHT RESTRICTIONS ON JAPANESE IMPORTED FOOD ITEMS.

IT WAS CONSIDERED NECESSARY.

WHAT CHANGED?
WORLD TRADE LAWS HELPED FORCE CHANGE.

SHINZO ABE'S INCESSANT WHINING AND DEMANDING THAT THE NATIONS HE'S RADIATING EVERY DAY TREAT HIM FAIRLY HELPED FORCE CHANGE.

THE COLLUSION BETWEEN THE NUCLEAR ENERGY INDUSTRY AND ITS DO-NOTHING REGULATORY COMMISSIONS COUPLED WITH OUR INDUSTRIAL
COMPLEX'S CONTROL OF NEWS MEDIA DID MORE THAN EITHER OF THE ABOVE TO FORCE CHANGE.

THEIR LIES BACKING UP ABE'S LIES AND TEPCO'S LIES AND AMERICA'S 'BIG NUKE INDUSTRY'S LIES THAT ALL IS WELL CINCHED THE DEAL...NO PUNISHMENT FOR JAPAN'S GOVERNMENT OR TEPCO FOR UNLEASHING HELL ON ALL OF US, NO-SIREE.

IN 2015, CHINA SEIZED BABY FORMULA IMPORTED FROM JAPAN BECAUSE IT WAS FOUND TO HAVE BEEN PRODUCED IN KNOWN RADIOACTIVELY CONTAMINATED AREAS OF JAPAN.
THAT WAS OVER FOUR YEARS AFTER THE REACTOR EXPLOSIONS IN FUKUSHIMA.

"[T]his is the second time Japanese infant milk formula has been recognized as dangerous by Chinese authorities. In December 2011, traces of cesium-137 was detected in Japanese baby formula. Shortly after, Tokyo-based Meiji Holding Company announced the recall of 400,000 cans of their baby formula as a precaution but said the levels of cesium detected were well below the government’s allowable limits. At the time, in a dubious statement, Meiji officials said, “Babies could still drink the formula every day without any effect on their health.”

Contrary to the clearly uninformed Meiji corporate opinion, many doctors and scientists warn that even the slightest internal radioactive contamination can cause cancer. Dr. John Goffman, Dr. Rosalie Bertell, Dr. Alice Stewart, Dr. Ernest Sternglass, Dr. Jay Gould, Dr. Helen Caldicott, and others, have all promoted the precautionary principle regarding any inhalation or ingestion of radioactive materials.

Scientific evidence indicates that the exposure to radiation suffered by fetuses, infants and children is far more serious than if the same exposure is suffered by adults.

Also, the damage done to girls and women by radiation – compared to boys and men – is known to be more severe.
The World Health Organization’s 2011 assessment of Fukushima notes that when children are exposed to radiation below the age of five, there is a 70 percent higher risk of cancer for girls than there is for boys.

Feeding radiation-tainted food to the most vulnerable is questionable at best and criminal at worst."

HOW MANY OF MY AMERICAN READERS SAW THIS IN OUR MAINSTREAM NEWS MEDIA?

"According to a report published in the International Journal of Health, large amounts of airborne radioactivity has been spread THROUGHOUT Japan and other nations and there could have been more than 14,000 deaths in the U.S. related to Fukushima.

The report states that “Some samples of radioactivity in precipitation, air, water, and milk, taken by the U.S. government, showed levels hundreds of times above normal; however, the small number of samples prohibits any credible analysis of temporal trends and spatial comparisons.

U.S. health officials report weekly deaths by age in 122 cities, about 25 to 35 percent of the national total. Deaths rose 4.46 percent from 2010 to 2011 in the 14 weeks after the arrival of Japanese fallout, compared with a 2.34 percent increase in the prior 14 weeks.

The number of infant deaths after Fukushima rose 1.80 percent, compared with a previous 8.37 percent decrease.

Projecting these figures for the entire United States yields 13,983 total deaths and 822 infant deaths in excess of the expected.”

THAT REPORT WAS ONCE AVAILABLE ON A WEB PAGE OPERATED BY 'RADIATION AND PUBLIC HEALTH/RADIATION.ORG.

IT WAS DELETED AND I HAD TO FIND IT IN INTERNET ARCHIVES.
THAT HAPPENS A LOT WITH DATA AND STATISTICS RELATED TO FUKUSHIMA. THINGS GET ERASED.

REMEMBER WHEN PEDIATRICIANS ON OUR WEST COAST WERE ADVISING PARENTS OF NEWBORNS TO HAVE THEIR INFANTS SCREENED FOR THYROID CANCER?  TRY TO FIND THAT WARNING ON THE INTERNET TODAY.

For more than a year, the prefectural government offered free thyroid medical exams to the parents of 360,000 children in Fukushima Prefecture. Of the more than 38,000 children tested through March of 2012, 13,646 were found to have thyroid lumps or cysts by the prefectural medical staff.

AND THEN THEY STOPPED TESTING, CITING THE STIGMA AND STRESS ON THE CHILDREN AND PARENTS,  THEN WHY DID PARENTS PROTEST THE ABRUPT END TO TESTING?

By the end of December, 2013, the consensus of Fukushima 'medical experts' were "agreed that the apparently-elevated child thyroid cancer rate in the prefecture was probably not due to the accident. Generally, they said it was too soon to judge that Fukushima radiation was the culprit."

THAT WAS AFTER THE ABE REGIME ISSUED THEIR 'GAG ORDER' AND THREATENED JAPANESE JOURNALISTS, GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS, PHYSICIANS AND HOSPITAL STAFF WITH JAIL TIME IF THEY LINKED DEATHS OR ILLNESSES TO THE NUCLEAR MELTDOWNS.

"Under the new legislation a ministry may classify information for a five-year term with a possibility of prolongation to up to 30 years. After that a cabinet ruling would be needed for the secret to be treated as such, but there is no limit for how long information may be kept under a lid.

"Basically, this bill raises the possibility that the kind of information about which the public should be informed is kept secret eternally," Tadaaki Muto, a lawyer and member of a task force on the bill at the Japan Federation of Bar Associations, told Reuters.

"Under the bill, the administrative branch can set the range of information that is kept secret at its own discretion."

TOO MANY SECRETS! CALL OFF THE 2020 TOKYO OLYMPIC GAMES!

The former Japanese ambassador to Switzerland, Mitsuhei Murata, recently proposed an eminently reasonable solution. It is time, he says, for Japan to stage an “honorable retreat” from hosting the 2020 Olympics while there is still time to select and prepare an alternative site.

In an article in the September issue of Gekkan Nippon, Murata buttressed his proposal by pointing out another misstatement in Abe’s IOC testimony, namely, “(Fukushima) has never done and will never do any damage to Tokyo.”

In response, Murata pointed to a number of incidents showing that Tokyo was affected by Fukushima radioactive fallout, including the discovery on March 23, 2011, that water from the purification plant in the Kanemachi district of Tokyo contained more than 200 becquerels per liter of radioactive iodine, double the recommended limit for young infants stipulated in the Food Sanitation Act.

Murata is not opposed to the Tokyo Olympic Games per se, but finds them a major distraction to what needs to be done immediately — namely, gathering the best minds and expertise from around the world and, with the full support of the Japanese government, doing everything humanly possible to bring Fukushima No. 1 truly “under control.” This will help to ensure the Pacific Ocean is no longer used as an open sewer for Fukushima-produced radiation, and also address the ongoing pain and distress of the residents of Fukushima Prefecture and beyond.

As Murata noted in the conclusion of his article, “Heaven and Earth will not long countenance immoral conduct.” Recognizing this, Minister Endo, will you join the call for an “honorable retreat”?"

IN JAPAN AND MANY OTHER 'NUCLEAR NATIONS', WE ARE TOLD THAT LOW-DOSE RADIATION IS HARMLESS, POSSIBLY EVEN GOOD FOR US.
THAT'S A DAMNABLE LIE.

EVEN OUR OWN ORIGINAL GANG OF ATOMIC SCIENTISTS, THE ONES WHO GAVE THE WORLD 'THE BOMB', STATED THAT THERE IS NO LEVEL LOW ENOUGH TO PREVENT HARM FROM RADIATION, THAT ANY RADIATION CAN LEAD TO CANCERS.

According to an article published in the Institute of Science in Society, Dr. Mae-Wan Ho, states that “low dose radiation is all the more dangerous because it does not kill the targeted cell, but allows its influence to spread widely to adjacent cells, thus multiplying the radiation effect (about 100 fold).”

"The bystander effect is largely a low-dose phenomenon, appearing at doses below 10 cGy [10]. Higher doses often do not produce bystander effect possibly because the cells targeted are killed before they can influence non-targeted cells. As with the “war on cancer”, numerous attempts have been made to identify the genes or gene products involved in the bystander effects. And as in cancer, genes up-regulated or down-regulated are secondary to a state of electronic imbalance (see [11] Cancer a Redox Disease, SiS 54) created by the ionizing radiation, which breaks chemical bonds and generate free electrons."

Other studies, including one published in the National Academy of Sciences, shows that even low exposure to radiation can increase the risk of many health problems and there is not a threshold for radiation that can be considered safe or harmless.

Studies show that chronic fatigue syndrome, dizziness, back pain, early aging syndrome, muscle and joint pains, fever, cervical lymph node enlargement and weight loss are some of other symptoms of exposure to low dose radiation.

"The following questions and answers produced by the World Health Organization (WHO)  address some of the international concerns over the safety of food produced in Japan.

What are the potential health effects of consuming contaminated food?

Consuming food contaminated with radioactive material will increase the amount of radioactivity a person is exposed to and could increase the health risks associated with exposure to radiation. The exact effect will depend on which radionuclides have been ingested and the amount. According to data reported so far, radioactive iodine and caesium are the main contaminants, and concentrations in some food samples have been detected at levels above the Japanese regulatory limits.

Radioactive iodine has a half-life of eight days and decays naturally within weeks. If ingested, it can accumulate in the body, particularly the thyroid gland, and increase the risk of thyroid cancer, particularly in children.

In contrast to radioactive iodine, radioactive caesium can linger in the environment for many years and could continue to present a longer term problem for food, and food production, and a threat to human health.

How do food products become radioactive?

Foods can become contaminated with radioactive materials when they are released as the result of a nuclear or radiological emergency. In these circumstances, radioactive material falling from the air or carried in rain water or snow, can deposit on the surface of foods like fruits and vegetables or animal feed. Also, over time, radioactivity can build up within food, as radionuclides are transferred through soil into crops or animals. Radioactivity can also be washed into rivers, lakes and the sea where fish and seafood could take up the radionuclides.

The severity of the risk depends on the radionuclide mix and the level of contaminant released.

There are internationally agreed Codex Guideline Levels (GLs) for radionuclide levels in internationally traded food following a nuclear or radiological emergency.

GLs for radionuclide levels can be found in the Codex General Standard for Contaminants and Toxins in Food and Feed."

THE DAIICHI REACTORS ARE STILL LEAKING LIKE SIEVES, JAPAN IS STILL OPEN-AIR BURNING RADIOACTIVE WASTE, STILL STACKING THOUSANDS OF TONS OF WASTE IN FLIMSY PLASTIC BAGS ALL OVER THE MAIN ISLAND THERE.

RAINS STILL WASH FRESH CONTAMINATION DOWN FROM MOUNTAINS AND FORESTS THAT CAN NEVER BE 'DECONTAMINATED' ONTO FARMLANDS ACROSS JAPAN, AND THAT NUCLEAR POWER PLANT IS STILL SITTING RIGHT ATOP A MAJOR AQUIFER THAT FEEDS TOKYO'S WATER SUPPLY.

SOME BURN SITES HAVE EXCEEDED EVEN THE NEW ALLOWABLE LIMITS, WHICH ARE 80 TIMES MORE THAN WHAT IS ALLOWED ELSEWHERE IN THE WORLD...80 TIMES! .

The limit of 8000 bq/kg has been surpassed even in facilities processing local garbage in Tokyo, according to the Ministry of the Environment. 80 times the pre-Fukushima limit.

IN 2017, A BEACH 60 MILES AWAY FROM THE DAIICHI REACTORS WAS FOUND TO HAVE MORE RADIOACTIVITY THAN THE HARBOR AT THAT ACCURSED TEPCO INSTALLATION.

"No one expected that the highest levels of cesium in ocean water today would be found not in the harbor of the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant, but in the groundwater many miles away below the beach sands."

Radioactive contamination of Japanese food 'serious',
SAID THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION JUST A FEW SHORT YEARS AGO.

"Quite clearly it's a serious situation," Peter Cordingley, Manila-based spokesman for WHO's regional office for the Western Pacific, told Reuters in a telephone interview on Monday.

"It's a lot more serious than anybody thought in the early days when we thought that this kind of problem can be limited to 20 to 30 kilometres," he said.

BUT...THEN CAME THE LOOPHOLE ABE WANTED:

"There is no evidence of contaminated food from Fukushima prefecture, where the plant is located, reaching other countries," he said, adding that it was "difficult to know whether the radioactive material found in some food in Japan originated from the stricken Daiichi plant."

THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT PROTESTS ANY STUDY, ANY INSINUATION THAT FOOD FROM JAPAN IS CONTAMINATED, CALLING SUCH REPORTS AND CONCERNS "UNFAIR", HAS PUSHED AND KEEPS PUSHING FOR ALL THE WORLD TO EAT WHATEVER JAPAN WANTS TO SEND OUT, 'PROMISING' ALL FOOD FROM JAPAN IS SAFE...AND IT WORKED.

WHILE RICE FARMERS AND FISHERMEN TEARFULLY FACED DOWN ABE'S REGIME AND SAID PUBLICLY THAT THEY WERE SELLING FOOD THAT THEY THEMSELVES WOULD NOT EAT, THEY WERE SILENCED WITH EVEN MORE FALSE PROMISES, BY A GOVERNMENT-IMPOSED MEDIA GAG ORDER AGAINST SUCH STATEMENTS,  AND MANIPULATION OF FACTS BY JAPANESE OFFICIALS.

FUKUSHIMA RADIATION WAS SPREAD OVER A VERY LARGE AREA, AS WE SAW WHEN, AS REPORTED BY FORBES, WATER AND  MILK FROM COWS ACROSS THE U.S. TESTED POSITIVE FOR FUKUSHIMA FALLOUT, OR WHEN NASA DETECTED ALARMING KNOWN NUCLEOTIDES FROM FUKUSHIMA IN OUR OWN PEARL RIVER AND STENNIS SPACE SITE...INCLUDING THE DEADLY POLONIUM.

CONTAMINATED FOOD DOESN'T HAVE TO COME FROM THE TINY AREA THAT THE ABE REGIME LISTS AS 'MILDLY RADIOACTIVE'.

In July 2011, Tokyo officials discovered cesium-137 at levels 6.4 times the national limit in beef sold to restaurants and stores in at least five prefectures; in April 2011, radioactive iodine-131 was found in breast milk of mothers east of Tokyo; radioactive tea from Japan was seized in France in July 2011 when it was found with twice the permitted amount of cesium – not that even a trace can be called harmless.
The tea had come from Shizuoka Prefecture, 300 miles south of Fukushima.

OUR EPA WAS ONLY TESTING FOR RADIOACTIVE IODINE-131!

"EPA data, 2011, showed that at least three different milk samples -- all from different parts of the U.S. -- tested positive for radioactive Iodine-131 at levels that exceed the EPA maximum thresholds for safety, which is currently set at 3.0 pico Curies per Liter (pCi/l).

In Phoenix, Ariz., a milk sample taken on March 28, 2011, tested at 3.2 pCi/l. In Little Rock, Ark., a milk sample taken on March 30, 2011, tested at 8.9 pCi/l, which is almost three times the EPA limit. And in Hilo, Hawaii, a milk sample collected on April 4, 2011, tested at 18 pCi/l, a level six times the EPA maximum safety threshold. The same Hawaii sample also tested at 19 pCi/l for Cesium-137, which has a half life of 30 years, and a shocking 24 pCi/l for Cesium-134, which has a half life of just over two years.

Why is this milk contamination significant?
Milk, of course, typically represents the overall condition of the food chain because cows consume grass and are exposed to the same elements as food crops and water supplies. In other words, when cows' milk starts testing positive for high levels of radioactive elements, this is indicative of radioactive contamination of the entire food supply.

Again, these figures do not include the other radioactive elements being spread by Fukushima."

EPA also found Fukushima radiation in several American water supplies at that same time.

THEN, EPA SAID THEIR MONITORS WERE DOWN AND WOULDN'T BE REPAIRED DUE TO HIGH COST AND TIGHT BUDGET.

AND OUR FDA?
WELL, AFTER EPA PASSED THE BUCK TO FDA FOR MONITORING, THE FDA TRIED TO PASS FOOD FISH AND OTHER SEAFOOD MONITORING ON TO NOAA...

EARLY ON...
"In the unlikely scenario that pollutants could affect fish that have traveled to the U.S., FDA will work with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to test seafood caught in those areas."

AND IN THEIR "March 2014 Update"...AFTER FISH WERE CAUGHT WITH HIGHER LEVELS OF CESIUM-137...

"To date, FDA has no evidence that radionuclides from the Fukushima incident are present in the U.S. food supply at levels that would pose a public health concern.

[NOTE: THEY ONLY TESTED A LOUSY 1,345 FOOD PRODUCTS FROM JAPAN IN THE YEARS OF 2011 TO 2014! 1,3345 TOTAL!]
Consequently, FDA is NOT advising consumers to alter their consumption of specific foods imported from Japan or domestically produced foods, including seafood.

FDA continues to closely monitor the situation AT AND AROUND the Fukushima Dai-ichi facility...For example, a study published in 2012 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) reported finding very low levels of Cesium in Pacific Bluefin tuna caught by recreational fisherman off the coast of California in August 2011. FDA reviewed this study and determined that the levels of cesium were roughly 300 times lower than levels that would prompt FDA to investigate further to determine if there were a health concern.

FDA also closely monitors information and data from a number of foreign governments and international organizations. This includes monitoring;
--the Japanese government’s food sample testing program
--the import sample testing programs of nations geographically close to Japan that import significant amounts of food from Japan.

--Fukushima Dai-ichi incident related activities of international organizations such as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

FDA continues to pay close attention to the situation AT the Fukushima Dai-ichi facility."

FDA IS TRUSTING JAPAN AND THE IAEA TO 'COME CLEAN'?
SURE, LET THE FOXES GUARD THE HEN HOUSE!

FDA IS AS NOTORIOUS FOR LYING AS THE ABE GOVERNMENT AND TEPCO!

JUST 2 YEARS AFTER THE INITIAL MELTDOWNS, AFTER ALL, FDA EXPANDED THE NUMBER OF PREFECTURES THAT IT 'MIGHT' HAVE CONCERN FOR FROM 4 TO 14.
(Import Alert 99-33 listed only 4 prefectures)
WONDER WHY?
BECAUSE BY THEN WE KNEW THE RADIATION HAD SPREAD FURTHER THAN JAPAN OR THE EPA OR THE FDA HAD IMAGINED.

WHAT ABOUT ONGOING, UNEXPLAINED SPIKES IN RADIATION?
NO CONCERN AFTER THOSE?
EVERY YEAR WE SEE NEW "ALL-TIME HIGH LEVELS OF RADIATION", ALWAYS HIGHER. ONE CAN DO A WEB SEARCH AND FIND DOZENS MENTIONS OF THESE SPIKES EACH YEAR IN THE MEDIA. HERE ARE A FEW.

Aide to Japan PM quits over radiation limits

"A top nuclear adviser says government’s radiation limit is too high, and it takes ad-hoc measures to control crisis.

A senior nuclear adviser to Naoto Kan, the Japanese prime minister, has submitted his resignation, alleging the government had ignored his advice on radiation limits and failed to follow the law.

Toshiso Kosako, a Tokyo University professor, who was named last month as an aide to Kan, said the government had only taken ad-hoc measures to contain the crisis at the crippled Fukushima nuclear power plant.

In a tearful press conference, he said the government and its commissions had taken “flexible approaches” to existing laws and regulations, and ignored his advice after he was named an adviser on March 16.

“I cannot help but to think (the prime minister’s office and other agencies) are only taking stopgap measures… and delaying the end” of the nuclear crisis, he told reporters."

HE KNEW, AS MANY IN GOVERNMENT THERE KNOW...CONTAMINATION CONTINUES.
FUKUSHIMA IS WORSE THAN CHERNOBYL BUT IT IS BY NO MEANS AT ITS WORST... YET.
