BOTH PRESIDENT TRUMP AND MELANIA HAVE COVID-19. PRESIDENT FLOWN TO WALTER REED HOSPITAL.

THE PRESIDENT WAS TAKEN BY HELICOPTER TO WALTER REED HOSPITAL. THE WHITE HOUSE STATES THIS IS ONLY A PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE AND THAT HE WILL CONTINUE TO WORK FROM THE PRESIDENTIAL SUITE AT WALTER REED.

U.S. President Donald Trump said less than an hour ago that he and his wife Melania have tested positive for COVID-19 and were going into quarantine, upending the race for the White House.

“We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!” the president said in a late night tweet.

Trump, 74, is at high risk for the deadly virus both because of his age and because he is considered overweight. He has remained in good health during his time in office but is not known to exercise regularly or to follow a healthy diet.

The development alters the presidential race dramatically.

Hope Hicks, one of the president’s closest senior advisers, on Thursday tested positive for the virus, making her the highest-profile member of the administration to contract the virus who is in frequent contact with Trump and other top officials.

Hicks along with several top White House and campaign advisers traveled with the president to Cleveland for Tuesday’s debate against Democratic Nominee Joe Biden.


National security adviser Robert O'Brien and Kimberly Guilfoyle, a Trump campaign official and Donald Trump Jr.'s girlfriend, also both tested positive for COVID-19 in July.
