"September 5, 2015 – "Good Day, this is “Your Radiation This Week.” These are the recorded Radiation Highs that affected people this week around the United States and in your neighborhood. Let’s get right to it.

Normal Radiation is 5 to 20 CPM.
50 CPM is an alert level.

Partial Counts are noted.
Uncounted radiation makes the actual Count higher and more dangerous.

Change: The YRTW radioactive cities list is now sorted by CPM, from the Highest CPM to the Lowest CPM.

Highest Recorded Radioactive City in America this week: A new and unfamiliar Leader this week in the race for the Most Radioactive Weather in America is Ft Wayne, Indiana with 1,326 CPM.
Congratulations to Ft Wayne.

Other competing cities for the title were not even close. Three cities exceeded 1,000 CPM this week in Your Rad Weather. Stay Alert and take all appropriate precautions.

Here’s how you can calculate an estimate of your Total Rad today:
Use a reported account of your Cesium 137 CPM and Multiply Times 5.

Another way to say it is Cs137CPM X 5.0 = Your Total Radiation Estimate. That’s it. No magic. Just the facts as close as you can calculate it. Good Luck.
However, provided Cesium 134 is present you are experiencing a recent radioactive release and all bets are off.

Why is that?
Because the two Rad Isotopes decay at greatly different rates. The relatively long lived Cs 137 is half gone in 30.1 years. The shorter lived Cesium 134 is half gone in only 2.06 years. As a result the Multiplier changes very rapidly.

Radiation types commonly measured by radiation monitors include Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Neutron and X-Ray radiation. Only Beta and Gamma are reported by the EPA and here on YRTW.

The only thing they have in common is that all will kill you.

There are also 1,944  known individual Rad elements, only a few are ever mentioned in articles.

In short, the newer disaster’s Cesium 137/134 immediate radiation readings so conveniently echoed by official news outlets tell you right away by simple multiplication how big the disaster really is.

Think of it as the insider’s secret code.
Multiply away!

How often do radioactive releases occur?
The answer is: Radioactive releases occur daily in most reactors.
This almost daily reactor Venting does complicate your health and your estimated Rad readings.
May you always have better Rad Weather; but, that’s not likely."

WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?
I ASKED THE EXPERTS BUT THEIR RESPONSE WAS TOO SLOW, SO I FOUND IT MYSELF.

"Measuring Radiation with a Geiger Counter CPM

What is CPM (also the ‘number’ used on the Radiation Network )?"

CPM (counts per minute) is a measure of radioactivity, a unit of measurement for a Geiger counter.

Technically, “It is the number of atoms in a given quantity of radioactive material that are detected to have decayed in one minute.”

Most Geiger counters are calibrated to Cs137 (Cesium), a radioactive isotope.

1,200 CPM on the meter (for Cs137) is about 1 mR/hr (milliRad per hour).
120 CPM on the meter (for Cs137) is about 1 uSv/hr (microSievert per hour).

How many CPM of radiation is bad?

Answer: It depends on how long you are exposed at any given level.

The Radiation Network website, for example, uses a threshold warning level of 100 CPM, mainly because it is unusual to observe levels of 100 or higher without something more going on in the area than just background level.

Having said that, how could one figure out the ‘badness’ of a given level?
How bad is bad?
All we need to do is put it in terms that makes sense.
First, we must understand a few radiation facts and numbers regarding dosage. There can be lots of conversions and it can be confusing, but by plodding through the math, you can determine a relationship of the Geiger counter numbers versus the risks to your health.

Radiation Dosage
Radiation dosage is a measure of risk – the biological harm that tissues receive in the body.
The unit of absorbed radiation dose is the sievert (Sv).
Since one sievert is a large quantity, radiation doses are normally expressed in smaller units, milliSievert (mSv) or microSievert (µSv) which are one-thousandth or one-millionth of a sievert.

For example, one chest X-ray will give about 0.2 milliSievert (mSv) of radiation dose.
On average, our annual radiation exposure from all natural sources is about 300 milliRem, which is equivalent to 3 milliSieverts (3 mSv).

Adding man-made sources (medical procedures, and others) the average annual U.S. radiation dose is about 600 milliRem, which is equivalent to 6 milliSieverts (6 mSv).

Average annual human exposure to radiation (U.S.)
600 milliRem (mRem)
6 milliSievert (mSv)

Radiation dose for increase cancer risk of 1 in a 1,000
1,250 milliRem (mRem)
12.5 milliSievert (mSv)

Earliest onset of radiation sickness
75,000 milliRem (mRem)
750 milliSievert (mSv)

Onset of radiation poisoning
300,000 milliRem (mRem)
3,000 milliSievert (mSv)

Expected 50% death from radiation
400,000 milliRem (mRem)
4,000 milliSievert (mSv)

What do the Radiation Network CPM numbers mean with regards to health risk?

With the examples of radiation dose listed above, we can correlate how long it would take to experience those effects based on a hypothetical Geiger counter CPM number.

So, let’s use the number 100, since this is the threshold that the Radiation Network website has chosen.
The Cs137 calibration factor listed above (120 CPM) was converted to obtain the proper factored results listed below (0.83x). Higher CPM numbers are also listed for relevancy.

Days compared with the avg. annual human exposure (U.S.)
207 (at 100 CPM)
42 (at 500 CPM)
14 (at 1,500 CPM)
2 (at 10,000 CPM)

Days to receive chronic dose for increase cancer risk of 1 in a 1,000
432 (at 100 CPM)
86 (at 500 CPM)
28 (at 1,500 CPM)
4 (at 10,000 CPM)

Days for earliest onset of radiation sickness
25,937 (at 100 CPM)
5,187 (at 500 CPM)
1,729 (at 1,500 CPM)
259 (at 10,000 CPM)

Conclusion: The Geiger Counter CPM numbers that one may experience can be compared to the equivalent ‘what-IF’ scenarios listed above for potential health impact.

The lower the better.
There are lots of theories and opinions regarding long-term effects, dosage vs. health, and the effects of various types of radioactive ionized particles making it into the food chain, etc…
Do your due-diligence

Interesting fact:
All food sources combined, expose a person to around 40 millirems per year on average.
Many foods are naturally radioactive, and bananas are particularly so, due to the radioactive potassium-40 they contain.

The equivalent dose for 365 bananas (one per day for a year) is 3.6 millirems (36 μSv).
Other foods that have above-average levels are potatoes, kidney beans, nuts (especially brazil nuts), and sunflower seeds.

Ways to limit radiation exposure:
1. Time (limit exposure time)
2. Distance (intensity decreases sharply according to the inverse-square-law)
3. Shielding
(alpha: nearly anything… a sheet of paper will stop it – danger of breathing it)
(beta: wood, water, plastic-acrylic, aluminum)
(gamma: water, concrete, lead)"

"Record Fukushima radiation levels found on southern California coast"

THERE ARE A COUPLE OF VIDEOS THERE AT THE ABOVE SITE.
WHAT IS MISLEADING, AS ALWAYS, IS THAT THE MEDIA REFUSES TO REMIND PEOPLE THAT THERE HAS BEEN A CONSTANT, AN INCESSANT FLOW OF RADIATION BOTH INTO THE ATMOSPHERE AND INTO BODIES OF FRESH AND SALT WATER.

WHAT THEY ALSO FAIL TO MENTION IS EVAPORATION OFF THE SEA SURFACE AND OCEAN WINDS WHICH ALSO TOSS RADIONUCLIDES INTO OUR AIR, THEN THEY RETURN IN RAIN.
IT IS A HUGE CYCLE.
WE ARE NOT GETTING A BREAK IN IT.

AND ACROSS THE PACIFIC IN JAPAN?
NHK, May 30, 2015 : Record levels of radioactivity in plant’s port — The operator of the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant says it has found record-high levels of radioactive water in the facility’s port.

IN 2018, ALL NATIONS WILL HAVE A CHANCE TO DO EXACTLY WHAT JAPAN IS DOING...AGAIN.
Up till now, five critical environmental issues have affected the oceans: over-fishing, chemical pollution and eutrophicationhabitat destruction, invasion of alien species and global climate change. However, one of the major threats the oceans may face in the twenty-first century is radioactive pollution.
The Wall St. Journal has recently claimed that plutonium levels are 1,000 times above normal on the seafloor 50 miles from San Francisco where 50,000 containers of radioactive waste lay at the bottom of the seafloor after steel barrels of nuclear material were disposed of a few decades ago.
They also claimed this is globally significant and is impacting the ecosystem.
This is a first study of this kind.
After World War II, for many decades, the nuclear industries used the oceans as a dumping ground.
It was only two decades ago that dumping from ships was internationally banned.
From 1946 through 1993, thirteen nuclear capable countries used the ocean as an ends to dispose of nuclear/radioactive waste.
The waste materials included industrial, medical and weapons waste, both liquids and solids housed in various containers, as well as reactor vessels, with and without spent or damaged nuclear fuel.
The United States alone dumped vast quantities of nuclear material off its coasts between 1946 and 1970—more than 110,000 containers
More specifically, for up to 15 years after World War II, the USS Calhoun County dumped thousands of tons of radioactive waste into the Atlantic Ocean, often without heeding the simplest health precautions
In order to make sure the waste-containing drums sank, the sailors would sometimes shoot them with rifles.
In the Pacific, there are an estimated 47,000 containers which lie at the bottom of the ocean floor near San Francisco, and Japan has also disposed of a magnitude of radioactive waste into the Pacific as well.
Russia, on the other hand, dumped some 17,000 containers of radioactive waste, 19 ships containing radioactive waste, 14 nuclear reactors, including five that still contain spent nuclear fuel; 735 other pieces of radioactively contaminated heavy machinery, and the K-27 nuclear submarine with its two reactors loaded with nuclear fuel.
The K-27 sank in 1989 and is currently resting on the floor of the Barents Sea, one mile deep, with its nuclear reactor and two nuclear warheads.
In total, there are now 6 nuclear submarines lying at the bottom of the Oceans, lost as a result of failure – 4 Russian and 2 American.
In Europe alone, some 28,500 containers of radioactive waste were dropped into the English Channel between 1950 and 1963 by European states, some of which are now being discovered to have leaks.
In addition, much radioactive waste was disposed of off the coast of Japan and in the South Korean Sea.
In all honesty, every nuclear nation, to some extent or another, could be possibly linked to the dumping of radioactive waste into our oceans.
Collectively, the known containers from Europe, let alone the rest of the world, translate to hundreds of thousands of tons of radioactive waste."

THE TRUTH OF HOW MUCH WAS DUMPED AND WHERE WILL NEVER BE KNOWN!

While in Europe waste was all supposed to be disposed of in waters at least 4,000 meters deep, many of the ship log documents are inaccurate or are left, “incomplete or unknown” as to the location of the dump, but WERE sometimes dumped in water only 100 meters deep and only miles away from the coast.
Also, the captain’s main concern was the safety of the crew, not the exact location of the dump.
The barrels of waste were radioactive and the crew was getting radioactive doses. Therefore, once the radioactive safe zone timer was up, the crew just dumped the barrels regardless of location.
The issue here is how one checks the current radioactive leakages and levels of the waste if the locations are unknown.

It wasn’t until 1993 that nuclear and radioactive ocean disposal had been fully banned and ratified by international treaties. (London Convention, Basel Convention, MARPOL).

Beyond technical and political considerations, the London Convention places prohibitions on disposing of radioactive materials at sea and does not make a distinction between wastes dumped directly into the water and waste that is buried underneath the ocean’s floor.

It also does not exclude dumping radioactive waste through pipelines, which companies in Europe are actually doing.

Some claim that populations of humans located near these pipelines are 10 times more likely to die of cancers.

It seems that the general consensus is that storing radioactive waste in the ocean is harmful to the organisms that inhabit the ocean and to humans as well due to radiation and in addition it is a rather expensive process.

Poor insulation of the containers, leaks, undersea volcanic activity, tectonic plate movement, limited locations, and several other factors prove that storing radioactive waste in the oceans has a potential of becoming a catastrophe.

Yet for some, it is more practical than alternatives such as storing it on land.
Nevertheless, many argue that ocean-based approaches to the disposal of nuclear waste have significant advantages.
First, disposing waste at the bottom of the ocean is hard for terrorists, rebels, or criminals to steal for use in radiological weapons or in nuclear bombs. The world’s oceans also have a vastly greater dilutive capacity than any single land site in the event of unintended leaks.

[NOTE: AS WE HAVE SEEN BEFORE, THAT DILUTION IS A MYTH!
THE OCEAN FLOW FROM JAPAN TO THE EAST COAST MUCH RESEMBLES THE FLOW OF A LARGE RIVER AND RADIONUCLIDES ARE HEAVILY CONCENTRATED WITHIN THAT FLOW.
JAPAN KEEPS PUMPING RADIATION INTO THE SEA, SO HOW CAN ANYONE ASSUME THE FLOW DOESN'T CARRY THAT TO US AS AN ONGOING ONSLAUGHT?]

In the US for example, Federal officials have long maintained that, despite some leakage from containers, there isn’t evidence of damage to the wider ocean environment or threats to public health.

[NOTE: But the EPA and NRC both state ON THEIR WEBSITES "NO level of radiation is safe to human bodies"!]

The Wall Street Journal review of decades of federal and other records has found many unanswered questions and evidence which proves otherwise.

It is also well documented by the scientific community, that even LOW doses of radioactive exposure can increase the rates of cancers.

However, more specifically, endocrine disruptors in the form of radioactivity can cause cancer in the same manner as it can cure cancer.

The 1993 Treaty remains in force up until 2018, after which the sub-seabed disposal option can be revisited, creating new opportunities for nuclear waste disposal and a more potentially radioactively ocean.

Companies are already writing up plans to convince the public and governments about the importance and safety of ocean-floor disposals.

Back then, and even now, many believed the ocean is fair game when it comes to dumping radioactive waste. The impact of radioactivity on human health was largely underestimated. "

IT ISN'T JUST FUKUSHIMA.
THE WHOLE WORLD IS JUST ITCHING TO GET BACK TO DUMPING NUCLEAR WASTE INTO OUR OCEANS!
THEY WILL POINT TO FUKUSHIMA AND CONVINCE THE MASSES THAT ALL IS WELL, SO LET'S DUMP INTO THE OCEANS LIKE WE USED TO!
SAVES MONEY!
MORE PROFITS FOR THE NUCLEAR INDUSTRY AND THAT POPULATION REDUCTION WILL REALLY GET TO ROLLING WHEN ALL CAN DUMP THEIR WASTE IN MASSIVE QUANTITIES.

THINGS ARE GETTING WORSE AT THE JAPANESE NUCLEAR PLANT, DAIICHI.

"On June 19th Tepco reported the highest-ever readings of strontium-90 outside of the Fukushima plant ports.
The readings were 1,000,000 Bq/m3 of strontium-90 at two locations near water intakes for Reactors 3 and 4.Tepco has not been able to explain the spike up in readings. The prior highest readings were 700,000 Bq/m3."

I'VE POSTED THIS VIDEO BEFORE BUT NOW IS A GOOD TIME TO LOOK AT WHAT HAS ALREADY BEEN BLASTED INTO EARTH'S ATMOSPHERE, CARRYING RADIONUCLIDES WHOSE HALF-LIVES CAN BE HUNDREDS TO THOUSANDS OF
YEARS...

THIS IS WHERE THAT "BACKGROUND RADIATION" COMES FROM, FOLKS.
THIS IS WHAT CAUSED CANCERS TO RISE, AND RISE, AND RISE ALL OVER THE GLOBE.

DARE WE IMAGINE WHAT EFFECTS DAIICHI IS HAVING ON US WHEN IT RADIATES THE ENVIRONMENT ALL DAY, EVERY DAY, PUMPING FALLOUT INTO THE AIR, RADIOACTIVE WASTED INTO THE OCEAN?

EVERY DAY... ALL DAY...GOING ON 5 YEARS NOW...5 YEARS NEXT MARCH!
1860+ DAYS, COME MARCH 11, 2016.

SINCE I WROTE "EXTINCTION EVENT PACIFIC COAST.THE PACIFIC IS DYING", WE HAVE SEEN MILLIONS MORE MARINE CREATURES DIE.

SINCE I WROTE "PACIFIC SEALS : SUFFERING AND DEATH AT SEA" , AND THAT WAS IN MAY OF THIS YEAR, MILLIONS MORE MARINE ANIMALS HAVE DIED, AND SEA BIRDS ARE AMONG THOSE.

MILLIONS.

PLEASE CONSIDER THIS...EVERY WAVE THAT SPLASHES AGAINST OUR WEST COAST AND SENDS UP SPRAY ALSO SENDS WHATEVER RADIATION IT IS CARRYING INTO THE AIR AND ONTO AMERICAN SOIL.

EVERY WAVE THAT BREAKS OVER SWIMMERS, SURFERS, FISHERMEN CARRIES RADIATION FROM DAIICHI.

IF THEY DON'T STOP THE LEAKS AND SOON, THERE IS SIMPLY NO PLACE FOR US TO RUN.

WE WILL BECOME LIKE THE CREATURES IN THAT OCEAN... WITH NO ESCAPE.

I ASK YOU AGAIN TO CALL YOUR LOCAL NEWS MEDIA, ASK THEM WHY THEY AREN'T REPORTING THIS.

CALL THE EPA, THE NRC, YOUR ELECTED OFFICIALS, TELL THEM YOU WANT IT STOPPED.

CALL THEM, WRITE THEM, GO TO THEIR DOORS, BUT DO SOMETHING EVERY DAY UNTIL THEY LISTEN, PLEASE.
DON'T GIVE UP AND LIE DOWN FOR THIS!

IF WE DO SOMETHING, TAKE ACTION, IT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN TIME.

IF MILLIONS OF US SCREAM, "STOP THE DAMNED NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS' LEAKS! STOP NUCLEAR WASTE! I WANT TO LIVE!", THEN THEY WILL HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO DO THINGS DIFFERENTLY, FIND WAYS TO FINALLY PROTECT US ALL.

I HAVE TO BELIEVE WE CAN MAKE A CHANGE BY OUR ACTIONS.

IF WE JUST SIT STILL AND TAKE IT, HOW CAN WE FACE OUR CHILDREN?

WHAT ELSE CAN WE DO?
HAND THEM THIS LIST AND WISH THEM WELL?

Most Common Diseases From Ionizing Radiation:
