IF YOU ARE AFRAID OF 'WILD ANIMALS' WHY NOT LIVE IN A CITY?

Predator killing contests—like the one pictured above—are not hunting.  They are cruel undertakings that perpetuate long-disproven myths about wolves and coyotes.

THEY DIDN'T STAND A CHANCE! AND ALL THEY DID WAS...BE BORN WOLF, AND THEN CAME THE FEARFUL ONES.

POISON BAIT, TRAPS OF ALL DESCRIPTIONS, SOMETIMES LEFT UNCHECKED FOR WEEKS... A TRAPPED ANIMAL IS SOMETIMES RESIGNED TO ITS FATE, BUT SOMETIMES IT WILL CHEW OFF A FOOT OR A LEG JUST FOR A CHANCE TO LIVE!

THIS IS AN ABOMINATION, A CRIME, A SADISTIC MURDER!

THE HATRED FOR PREDATORY ANIMALS IN AMERICA HAS REACHED NEW LEVELS OF PURE PARANOIA, AND THAT IS ENDANGERING SOME OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL, MAGNIFICENT SPECIES EVER TO LIVE HERE.

WHY HUMANS HAVE A BURNING DESIRE TO UTTERLY ANNIHILATE OTHER LIVING SPECIES MAKES NO SENSE TO THIS 'CHILD OF THE ORIGINAL PEOPLE'.

I CANNOT GRASP WHY SO MANY OF TODAY'S AMERICANS WANT TO KILL OFF EVERY WOLF, EVERY PANTHER, EVERY BEAR, EVERY COYOTE WHEN IT WAS AND IS HUMANS WHO INVADED THEIR TERRITORIES, OF THEIR OWN FREE WILLS.

NO ONE HAS FORCED ONE EUROPEAN DESCENDANT OUT INTO THE "WILD" AREAS OF AMERICA.

IT'S NOT LIKE 'RESERVATIONS' WERE SET UP FOR THE CONQUERING RACE, AND NONE OF THEM HAS EVER BEEN HERDED ONTO SUCH "WILD" LANDS.

IF, BY CHOICE, YOU DECIDE TO SETTLE WHERE THERE IS A KNOWN POPULATION OF ANY SPECIES, YOU FIND WAYS TO PEACEFULLY COEXIST...OR YOU GET THE HELL OUT ANY WAY YOU CAN!

THE 'LANGUAGE' OF 15TH, 16TH, 17TH AND 18TH CENTURIES "AMERICA" WAS WILD...WILD AND FREE.

THE INVADERS REFUSED TO LEARN THAT 'LANGUAGE'.

FEAR KEPT THEM IGNORANT AS TO HOW TO LIVE AMONGST THE "WILD THINGS".

THEIR DESCENDANTS, FOR THE MOST PART, STILL REFUSE TO LEARN THAT WONDERFUL LANGUAGE!

THEY'RE STILL TREMBLING IN THE NIGHT, LEERY OF EVERY SOUND AND MOVEMENT "OUT THERE" IN THE SCARY WILD.

WHEN THE EUROPEAN "ILLEGAL ALIENS" MOVED ONTO THE NORTH AMERICAN CONTINENT, MOVED INTO AREAS POPULATED BY OTHER HUMANS FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS, SURELY THEY WERE AWARE THAT "WILD THINGS" LIVED HERE.
EVEN IF THIS CAUGHT THEM BY SURPRISE, AFTER THEY'D ESTABLISHED THOSE FIRST FEW "SETTLEMENTS", SURELY THEY GOT A GOOD, LONG LOOK AT LOCAL WILDLIFE.

YES, THERE WERE MOUNTAIN LIONS, BEARS, WOLVES, COYOTES, AND OTHERS, OH MY!
THOSE HAD BEEN HERE SINCE THE DAWN OF TIME, PRE-DATED HUMAN BEINGS, AND, AMAZINGLY, THE INDIGENOUS INHABITANTS HAD DEALT WITH THEM QUITE NICELY, THANKS.

BUT THE ORIGINAL INHABITANTS DIDN'T PANIC EVERY TIME THEY SAW A WILD PREDATOR AND KILL IT. THEY EXPECTED LOSS FROM THE FREE-ROAMING BEASTS.
THEY AVOIDED CONTACT, BUT AS FAR AS YEARS UPON YEARS OF RESEARCH HAS TAKEN ME, I CAN'T FIND WHERE THEY SET OUT TO EXTERMINATE ENTIRE POPULATIONS OF PREDATORY ANIMALS, NOT ONE INSTANCE OF THAT.

EUROPEANS, ON THE OTHER HAND, HAVE LONG DONE JUST THAT.
EVERY BEAR, EVERY WOLF, EVERY PUMA, EVERY COYOTE SEEMS TO BE A PERSONAL THREAT TO THE DESCENDANTS OF THOSE FIRST HYSTERICALLY TERRIFIED INVADERS OF THE "NEW WORLD".

"NEW WORLD"?
IT MAY HAVE BEEN A 'NEW WORLD' TO THEM, BUT IT WAS AN ANCIENT WORLD TO ALL WHO LIVED HERE BEFORE THE BOATS CAME...ANIMALS AND HUMANS.

THAT THE EUROPEANS FOUND SO MANY WILD THINGS SUGGESTS TO ANY RATIONAL MIND THAT, GIVEN THE COEXISTENCE OF HUMANS AND PREDATORY ANIMALS FOR MANY THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF YEARS, GIVEN THAT HUMAN POPULATION ESTIMATES OF THE AMERICAN CONTINENTS RUN INTO 100 MILLION PEOPLE, BEFORE THE BOATS,

THE ORIGINAL INHABITANTS HAD OBVIOUSLY NOT WAGED ALL-OUT WAR ON ANY SPECIES OF MEAT-EATING ANIMALS. THOSE REMAINED HERE IN GREAT ABUNDANCE, MUCH TO THE CHAGRIN OF 'THE NEW PEOPLE ON THE BLOCK'.

YOU CAN POINT TO THE MASS BUFFALO KILLS BY INDIGENOUS TRIBES ALL YOU WANT, BUT BUFFALO WERE THE CATTLE OF ANCIENT TIMES, AND I SEE FEW PEOPLE WAGGING FINGERS OR TONGUES ABOUT AMERICAN CONSUMPTION OF CATTLE...PEOPLE EAT MEAT.

THE BUFFALO HERDS WERE TAKEN TO THE BRINK OF EXTINCTION ONLY AFTER EUROPEANS CAME HERE.

AND BUFFALO DON'T EAT PEOPLE.

NEITHER DO THE VAST MAJORITY OF WOLVES, BEARS, MOUNTAIN LIONS/PANTHERS, OR COYOTES.

IN AMERICA, WE EVEN KILL MUSTANGS, WILD BURROS!

THERE ARE SO FEW THAT FINDING A HERD CAN TAKES WEEKS, BUT FIND THEM WE DO, ROUND THEM UP, SEND THEM OFF TO SLAUGHTER, TO BECOME PET FOOD!
WHY?
BECAUSE RANCHERS DON'T LIKE THEM, AND RANCHERS FUND POLITICAL CAMPAIGNS!
$$$$$$ MONEY KILLS THE WILD HERDS!

DO FERAL DOGS, OR JUST PLAIN OLD FREE-ROAMING PET DOGS ATTACK LIVESTOCK, OR PEOPLE?
YES, YES THEY DO!

THE MAJORITY OF ATTACKS ON FARM ANIMALS HAS BEEN FOUND TO COME FROM PACKS OF FERAL AND/OR FARM DOGS!

THE HUNTING MAGAZINES WON'T TELL YOU THAT!
RANCHERS WILL DENY THAT.
WHY?

SO WILL A FERAL HOG ATTACK DOMESTIC ANIMALS AND PEOPLE...AND I'M NOT TALKING JAVELINA.

I MEAN THE FARM PIGS WHO ESCAPE INTO THE WILD!
ESCAPED DOMESTIC HOGS ARE DOING SO MUCH DAMAGE IN TEXAS THAT THEY CALLED OPEN SEASON ON THEM AND MANY WOUL PAY PEOPLE TO COME AND HUNT THEM!

BUT NO WAR IS BEING WAGED ON "RAVAGING" PIGGIES OR ON ONCE-OWNED DOGGIES IN AMERICA,... JUST ON WOLVES, COYOTES. WILD THINGS.

THE UNMITIGATED FEAR, THE INCREDIBLE DISINFORMATION OUT THERE ABOUT AMERICA'S WILD PREDATORS BOGGLES MY MIND.

I'VE LIVED IN REMOTE RURAL AREAS ALL OVER AMERICA, HAD LATE-NIGHT VISITS BY EVERYTHING FROM BLACK BEARS TO ENORMOUS WOLVES, PACKS OF COYOTES.

SURE, WE HAD A FEW CHICKENS AND GEESE TAKEN, BUT WE EXPECTED THAT WHEN WE CHOSE TO LIVE WHERE WE DID IN THOSE INSTANCES.

WE DIDN'T MOUNT AN ASSAULT ON EVERY CHICKEN-STEALING SPECIES WITHIN 100 MILES BECAUSE WE LOST A DOZEN OR SO CHICKS.

WE SIMPLY DID WHAT WAS NECESSARY TO MAKE IT MORE DIFFICULT/IMPOSSIBLE FOR SUCH THEFTS TO OCCUR AND MARVELED AT THE CUNNING OF THE PREDATORS.

TO HEAR A WOLF OR COYOTE HOWL AT NIGHT MADE US FEEL GOOD, ACTUALLY. TO FIND BEAR TRACKS IN THE YARD WAS SURPRISING, AT FIRST, BUT NOT TERRIFYING.

WE JUST TOOK PRECAUTIONS, AND PUT OUT DETERRENTS. HAD THAT NOT HAVE WORKED, WE'D HAVE MOVED ON. WE BLOODY WELL NEVER INTENDED TO KILL ALL THE BIG ANIMALS THAT WERE THERE BEFORE WE WERE.

LOOKS LIKE "KILL 'EM ALL!" IS THE CRY OF THE DAY...

<<To the few who know, [OR CARE] members of Denali’s wolf population are also some of the longest, continuously studied animal groups in the world, besting even Jane Goodall’s chimps. But in recent years, wolf numbers in the 7,370-square-mile park have decreased even faster than the TV audience of Sarah Palin’s Alaska on TLC. In 2007, Denali Park biologists counted 147 wolves in nine groups that roamed the 93-year-old park. But in their most recent count, taken last autumn, numbers had declined to 54, the lowest since 1986.

Some, like the Alaska Board of Game, blame this die-off on natural causes—wolves killing wolves and low sheep populations. But others, including private citizens, park biologists, and members of the environmental advocacy group the Alaska Wildife Alliance (AWA), believe there are more sinister reasons. According to some AWA members, the recent, radical decline of the park’s most visible wolves—called the Grant Creek group—is the result of three main factors: the dissolution of Denali’s protective buffer zone, the Palin-appointed Alaska Board of Game, and the acute, ethically questionable actions of a small handful of local trappers, including a man named Coke Wallace.

Between 1966 and 2009, celebrated wolf biologist Gorden Haber studied wolves, on the ground, in Denali, hundreds of hours each year. During his extensive observation, Haber witnessed wolves wandering just outside the park and trappers laying their snares along the park’s boundary to kill these wolves. Thanks to his studies, Haber was able, in 2000, to convince the then-Board of Game to establish a protective buffer along the outside edge of the park, within a finger of state land, where wolf trapping was otherwise legal. Tragically, Haber died in a plane crash while observing wolves in late 2009. And the following March, the Board of Game rescinded the protective area.

Trappers once again position their snares along the park boundary, killing not only adult wolves, but pups. And last May, in an act that infuriated both wolf advocates and the usually detached Denali Park Service, the local trapper, Coke Wallace, hitched a dead horse to his four-wheeler, dragged it to the park boundary, and used it to lure and snare the pregnant alpha female of the park’s wolf group, Grant Creek.

Denali Park biologist Tom Meier (also recently deceased) reported that he and other park biologists believed declining wolf populations weren’t the result of declining prey. Nor did they blame habitat, which is abundant in the 6.3 million-acre park. That, Meier said, left two causes: trapping on park borders and the vigorous predator-control program against bears and wolves currently under way in areas adjacent to the park. “What Tom told me is that when game officials do intensive predator control, it creates a vacuum,” says Holleman. “He believed that Denali wolves may have expanded their territory to fill it.”

Holleman, along with several wolf advocacy groups, have petitioned the Board of Game to “reinstate the protective buffer.” But in about six attempts, between 2010 and present, the Board refused and created a potentially illegal eight-year “moratorium” on even discussing the buffer zone.>>

SAD WYOMING

THE FOLKS IN WYOMING MAY BE A LOT MORE FEARFUL THAN IN OTHER STATES, EXCEPT FOR MAYBE ALASKA, IDAHO, TEXAS, MONTANA, WASHINGTON, COLORADO, NORTH CAROLINA ,AND...WELL, NEVER MIND...

"In Wyoming It’s Legal to Slaughter Wolf Pups in Their Dens"

April 3, 2013
http://www.takepart.com/article/2013/04/03/wolf-denning-hunting-legal-US

“Wolf-denning” refers to the killing of wolf pups in or near their dens.

In parts of the U.S., wolves are still protected by the federal endangered species act, but in certain areas where reintroduction efforts in the mid-1990s have been successful, the animals are fair game.

According to Defenders of Wildlife’s John Motsinger, since October 2012 Wyoming has allowed wolves to be killed year-round, without a license and by almost any means, across 85 percent of the state—the so-called “predator zone.”

Fortunately, most wolves live in the protected areas of the state. Unfortunately, wolf denning is practiced illegally in places where it’s prohibited.

These days, the usual method of culling pups involves shooting them in the head, execution style. A few years ago, the Department of Fish and Game in Alaska reportedly offed two litters of pups this way during an operation to protect a caribou herd whose numbers were in rapid decline. The pups were about four weeks old, and barely walking, according to the Juneau Empire. The article also said the officials had targeted the parents, and thought it more humane to shoot their offspring than to leave them to starve.

Suzanne Stone, top wolf expert at Defenders of Wildlife, says government officials have also killed pups in their dens in Idaho and Wyoming.

If a shot to the head sounds bad, Amaroq Weiss, West Coast Wolf Organizer for the Center for Biological Diversity, assured me that the history of wolf denning was worse.

“The techniques are all utterly abysmal. They include gassing dens, setting fire in dens, burying the dens with pups alive in them, crawling into dens and pulling pups out to shoot them or club them in the head, and using baits that contain poison or fishing hooks hidden inside the baits to be swallowed.

“In some instances, all but one of a litter of pups would be killed, and the live one would then be staked by a collar and chain as bait to draw the parents in to be killed, as well. In other cases, all pups were killed and their scent glands removed and used as bait to draw the parents in to be killed, as well,” says Weiss.

And they say wolves are big and bad.

By these methods and others, wolves were nearly exterminated in the U.S. in the 19th century. And it seems like we could be headed back in that direction. The Defenders of Wildlife website describes a bill that just cleared committee in Montana:

If [the bill] passes…a number of horrific practices will be made legal, including neck snares, and the practice of using dead wolves as bait.

It will be legal to choke a wolf to death and then leave its body out as bait to try to kill more wolves in its pack.>>

HUMANS WHO RESORT TO THESE PRACTICES SHOULD BE RECLASSIFIED AS POND SLIME, OR MAYBE AS SOMETHING LOWER THAN WHALE POOP IN THE MARIANNA TRENCH.
IF YOU'RE SCARED OF WOLVES, IF THEY BOTHER YOU, GO LIVE WHERE THERE AREN'T ANY!
HOW HARD IS THAT?
JUST GET AWAY FROM THE SCARY THINGS!
TUCK YOUR TERRIFIED TAIL AND RUN BACK TO "CIVILIZATION"!

THERE'S GREAT RANCH AND FARMLAND ALL OVER THE CONTINENT THAT HASN'T GOT ONE BIG BAD WOLF ON IT, NOR BEARS, NOR ANY OTHER "TERRIBLE THING" YOU SCARED LITTLE BUNNIES MIGHT FIND BOTHERSOME.
IF YOU CAN'T LEARN THE LANGUAGE OF WILD AMERICA, CONSIDER, PLEASE, GOING BACK TO EUROPE!
MOST OF THE "BAD, SCARY THINGS" HAVE ALL BEEN KILLED THERE! IT'S SAFE! YOU CAN GO HOME AGAIN!

HOW IS IT THAT SOME PEOPLE CAN COEXIST WITH WILD PREDATORS AND NOT KILL A SINGLE ONE?

HOW WAS IT THAT MILLIONS OF INDIGENOUS PEOPLE CAME TO REVERE THE WOLF, THE BEAR, THE PUMA, EVEN THE COYOTE, BUT EUROPEAN DESCENDANTS RESORT TO SUCH HEINOUS PRACTICES OF TOTAL ERADICATION?
WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS 'PICTURE'?

FEAR...STARK, PSYCHOTIC, UNFOUNDED FEAR...THAT'S WHAT'S WRONG!
PEOPLE, AFRAID OF THEIR OWN SHADOWS, TRANSFERRING THAT FEAR TO OTHER CREATURES, TO ONE ANOTHER...

IT'S DRIVEN AMERICA FOR 500+ YEARS...FEAR...DREAD...IRRATIONAL, ILLOGICAL FEAR.

SHAMEFUL...AND DISGUSTING...THERE IS NOT ONE BIT OF HONOR IN SUCH THINGS.

PLEASE GO SEE WHAT SOME EXCUSE FOR A HUMAN DID ILLEGALLY, BUT POSTED PHOTOS OF HIS "WORK" TO SOCIAL MEDIA..., HE WAS PROUD OF IT!

http://havacuppahemlock1.blogspot.com/2012/12/their-sin-they-unlike-us-did-exactly.html

NOW, I KNOW MANY WHO READ THIS WILL (I SINCERELY HOPE) BE OFFENDED, AND THOSE WILL NOT SO MUCH AS WANT TO HAVE A LOOK AT ANY OF THE DOCUMENTARIES ABOUT HOW WRONG SCARED RANCHERS AND TERRIFIED RURAL FOLKS ARE IN TOO MANY AREAS ABOUT WOLVES, ETC.
BUT HERE'S ONE FOR THOSE WHO DON'T HAVE NIGHTMARES ABOUT THOSE "BIG BAD WOLVES"...

http://www.takepart.com/article/2013/02/04/living-with-wolves

THERE IS A PETITION TO KEEP GRAY WOLVES ON THE ENDANGERED LIST...
MAY THOSE WHO WON'T SIGN IT NEVER HAVE A PETITION TO KEEP YOU ALIVE...SHOULD YOU EVER NEED ONE.

TO INDIGENOUS PEOPLE, ALL LIFE IS SACRED. ALL LIFE IS SACRED!
WHY CAN'T ALL PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THIS?

                                   SENSELESS, SENSELESS, SENSELESS!!!
