CALLAWAY TURNED 30 YEARS OLD LAST YEAR.
THE CREW RUNNING THE "EVENT" DON'T KNOW WHERE THE LEAK IS COMING FROM BUT WE'RE TOLD THEY HAVE IT CONTAINED.
HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?
"NOPE, WE DON'T KNOW WHERE SHE'S LEAKIN', BUT WE GOT 'ER CONTAINED!"
THE NRC BRIEFLY NOTED THAT RADIATION LEVELS ARE "STABLE BUT ABOVE NORMAL" IN THE CONTAINMENT BUILDING.
[ATTABOY, FELLOWS, HOLD HER STEADY AS SHE GOES! STEADILY ABOVE NORMAL IS JUST GREAT!]
[THE "EVENT NOTICE" CAN BE READ AT http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/doc-collections/event-status/event/2015/20150723en.html#en51253]
JUST WHAT IS THIS FACILITY'S "NORMAL", GIVEN ITS LEAKS, CRACKS AND OOZINGS?
IS IT HIGH ENOUGH TO KILL A HORSE?
DIDN'T IT TAKE A LAWSUIT THERE TO FORCE THEM TO MONITOR RADIATION LEVELS IN WATER ONCE A MONTH?
I KNOW FOR SURE THERE WAS A GROUP APPEALING CALLAWAY'S RE-LICENSING THIS YEAR.
"The Coalition for the Environment is already a part of another federal suit filed last fall against the NRC. It claims the agency’s rules regarding long-term storage of spent nuclear fuel violates federal laws.
In March, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission renewed Ameren’s operating license for the plant through 2044.
The previous license does not expire until 2024.
"INITIATION OF PLANT SHUTDOWN DUE TO RCS LEAKAGE"
“On July 23, 2015 at 0115 [CDT], Callaway Plant initiated a shutdown required by Technical Specifications (TS).
At 2139 [CDT] on July 22, 2015, TS 3.4.13 Condition A was entered due to unidentified RCS leakage being in excess of the 1 gpm TS limit.
The leak was indicated by an increase in containment radiation readings, increasing sump levels, and decreasing levels in the Volume Control tank (VCT).
personnel safety the exact location of the leak inside the
containment building could not be determined."
"At this time radiation levels inside [the] containment are stable and slightly above normal. There have been no releases from the plant above normal levels.
"The [NRC] Senior Resident Inspector was notified."
SO WHAT DID "SENIOR RESIDENT INSPECTOR" DO....SEND OVER CHAMPAGNE?
DOES NRC SEND OUT GLITZY "SWAG BAGS" TO THE BIGGEST NUKE LEAKER EACH MONTH, I WONDER?
SOMETHING KEEPS THEM CONSTANTLY LEAKING, GOTTA BE SOME SORT OF STIMULUS.
BTW, STILL NO UPDATE ON THE NRC "EVENT PAGE" ON THIS.
MAYBE THEY'RE ALL PASSED OUT OVER AT CALLAWAY?
MAYBE NRC DOESN'T GIVE A RAT'S BEHIND?
IF YOU HAVE SOME TIME ON YOUR HANDS, GO READ THE "EVENT LOGS" FOR JUST 2015 TO DATE.
http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/doc-collections/event-status/event/2015/
IT'S A REAL HOOT.
MAKES ONE PROUD TO LIVE IN AMERICA, THE RADIOACTIVE.
JUST A COUPLE OF QUICK NOTES, THIS FROM JUNE 8, 2015:
"AGREEMENT STATE REPORT - TWO LOST NUCLEAR THICKNESS GAUGES
The following information was received via fax:
"Genpac, LLC reported that two NCR Systems thickness gauges, SS&D No. CA0471D102B, device model No. 103, each containing 150 millicuries of Americium-241 were unaccounted for. "
I STOPPED COUNTING LOST AND/OR STOLEN DEVICES AT 11...AND ONE CASE OF A STOLEN VEHICLE WITH "NUCLEAR MEDICATIONS" IN IT.
HERE'S A NICE SHORT LIST OF THOSE RARE VIOLATIONS BUT NEVER-IMPOSED FINES LISTED BY THE NRC FOR 2015...INCLUDES FACILITIES AT OLD OYSTER CREEK, NINE MILE POINT, DUANE ARNOLD ENERGY CENTER, WATTS BAR, VOGTLE ELECTRIC, DRESDEN, SEQUOYAH, R.E. GINNA, PALISADES, DIABLO CANYON, MILLSTONE, ARKANSAS NUCLEAR ONE...AN EVEN DOZEN OF MAYBE THE WORST OF THE WORST "LEAKERS".
THOUGH CITED WITH VIOLATIONS, ALL FACILITIES ARE CURRENTLY STILL RUNNING RIGHT ALONG ... AND LEAKING LIKE SIEVES, AS USUAL.
HOW THE PILGRIM FACILITY, HANFORD, WIPP, YANKEE, INDIAN POINT, TURKEY CREEK, SAN ONOFRE, LIMERICK, SALEM, ...WELL, ALL OF THEM...ESCAPED FINES FOR VIOLATIONS IS BEYOND MY UNDERSTANDING.
HANFORD HAS BEEN CALLED "THE PERFECT RADIOACTIVE STORM" BY THE GOVERNOR HIMSELF...BUT NO FINES.
THE "DAILY BEAST" LISTED THEIR RANKING OF THE "MOST VULNERABLE POWER PLANTS IN AMERICA" RIGHT AFTER THE FUKUSHIMA 'INCIDENT'.
NOTHING HAS CHANGED AT ANY OF THOSE, EITHER.
BACK TO CALLAWAY:
“We EXPECT unplanned shutdowns AND OTHER PROBLEMS TO INCREASE as the nuclear reactor ages, much like you expect your car to have more problems as it ages,” said Ed Smith with the Missouri Coalition for the Environment. “The event today appears to be PART OF A TREND, which we would expect from an aging nuclear reactor or any other type of aging complex machinery.”
I TELL YOU WHAT, EDDIE, ME LAD, AN AGING CAR ISN'T GOING TO EMIT ALPHA/BETA/GAMMA RADIATION THAT WILL FRY OUR DNA, IS IT, BOY?
Today is the THIRD time the Callaway 1 nuclear reactor has undergone an unplanned shutdown WITHIN THE LAST TWO YEARS; on July 26, 2013 there was a fire near a turbine and on December 23, 2014 the turbine tripped.
The Callaway 1 nuclear reactor also leaked radioactive Tritium and Colbalt-60 above the Environmental Protection Agency’s drinking water guidelines within the last year.
AWWW, SHUCKS, THE EPA DOESN'T MIND A BIT!
RADIOACTIVE WATER IS ITS SPECIALTY!
THE EPA 'JUST LOVES THEM SOME OF THAT'!
MMMM, MMMM GOOD FOR AMERICA!
I HEARD THAT THE EPA IS COMING OUT WITH A NEW RECIPE FOR "KILLER BROWNIES"...USING "YELLOW CAKE" IMPORTED FROM IRAN INSTEAD OF FLOUR . JUST ADD MILK FROM SIX-LEGGED, TWO-HEADED COWS THAT GRAZE AT THE HANFORD SUPER-NUKE FACILITY IN WASHINGTON STATE, EGGS FRESH FROM FUKUSHIMA DAIICHI'S ROOFTOP CHICKEN COOPS, SOME OF THAT YUMMY SLUDGE FROM WIPP'S LEAKY BARRELS INSTEAD OF COCOA, AND SOME BAYOU CORNE, LOUISIANA MUTANT SUGAR CANE SUGAR, AND "EAT UP!"
EAT QUICKLY, BEFORE YOUR TEETH FALL OUT AND YOUR EYES MELT OUT OF YOUR SOCKETS.
THE NRC LOVES YOU, EPA GUYS!
THANKS A MILLION FOR MAKING SEVERAL THOUSAND MORE CANCER CASES POSSIBLE WITH THOSE NEW HIGHER LEVELS OF ALLOWED RADIOACTIVE CONTAMINANTS IN AMERICA'S DRINKING WATER!
XOXOXOXO
RIGHT?
OHHHH, CALLAWAY, CALLAWAY...WHY DON'T YOU JUST FALL DOWN AND GET IT OVER WITH?
"The Ameren Corp. nuclear power plant in central Missouri was shut down for the second time in eight months Thursday after a "non-emergency" leak was found in the reaction control system.
The shutdown occurred at 1:15 a.m. at the plant near Fulton. Jeff Trammel, a spokesman for St. Louis-based Ameren, called it a "minor steam leak."
He said no one was hurt and there was no risk to the public.
Ameren officials are investigating the cause. Trammel said it was unclear when the plant would restart."
"NO RISK TO THE PUBLIC"?
SO, WHAT, JUST IGNORE THAT STEAM PLUME DRIFTING ACROSS THE STATE?
"No "return to service date" has been set, but service to customers "has not been affected."
HUH?
HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?
THERE WERE A FEW TORNADOES AND SOME MAJOR FLOODING NEAR THE SITE, SO MAYBE THAT AFFECTED THIS SHUTDOWN?
A NICE LITTLE ARTICLE COMPARING THE CHANCES OF OUR 'FLEET' OF 100 OLD CRUMBLING NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS HAVING A MAJOR ACCIDENT AND LOSING AT RUSSIAN ROULETTE CAN BE FOUND <HERE>.
"The risk from operating 100 reactors for 40 years at the NRC’s Safety Goal is slightly greater than the risk from taking two spins at Russian roulette.
The risk from operating 100 reactors for 40 years at the U.S. nuclear industry’s demonstrated accident rate is slightly greater than taking seven spins at Russian roulette using a six-chamber revolver."
WHO WANTS TO PLAY?
